What does an Orthopedic LPN/LVN do at Restore Orthopedics and Sports Medicine?
Orthopedic Licensed Vocational Nurses provide care for patients suffering from musculoskeletal diseases and deficits. The LVN provides care for patients who have fractures, suffer from arthritis and many other bone and muscle related issues, patients after joint replacement surgeries and patients with degenerative joint diseases as well as sports related injuries. The LVN is responsible for post-operative care and administering treatments. The role of the Orthopedic Licensed Vocational Nurse may also include helping the patient with therapy and assistance for faster recuperation and healing.
Candidates must have a current nursing license as well as a positive attitude.
- Must hold and maintain a current license to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in California.
- Ongoing pursuit of Continuing Education Credits in clinical subjects, management, personal growth and development.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of infection control principles and practices.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively and positively with staff, patients and family members.
- Basic computer knowledge and ability with an aptitude to learn company EMR system.
- Must be capable of maintaining regular, full time attendance.
- Must meet all local health regulation and pass post-employment physical exam if required. This requirement also includes drug screening, criminal background investigation and reference inquiry.
- Recent clinical experience, education, or specialty skills specific to orthopedics.
You'll be successful with the following qualifications:
Education:
- High School Education/GED or equivalent: Required
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider certification: Required
- Blood draw certification: Required
- Current Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license: Required
Work Experience: 1 year of experience working as LVN Required
Essential Functions:
- Performs assigned clinical procedures such as venipuncture, wound care, fracture treatments
- Observe and monitor the health and general body condition of the patient and report changes to the physician.
- Collaborate with the physician to perform treatments on patients with musculoskeletal conditions.
- Educate patients and their family members on steps to manage pain and how to avoid post-surgical infections.
- Educating injured athletes in management of treatment of pain and how to recover after an injury.
- Perform wound dressing on patients with surgical wounds.
- Observe and monitor vital signs of patient.
- Orders/restocks supplies as assigned, according to established par levels. Maintains neatness/cleanliness in assigned areas.
Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities of the Orthopedic Licensed Vocational Nurse
An Orthopedic LVN should possess the following qualities to be effective on the job:
- Sensitivity to patient’s and family members feelings and reactions. These patients may be in pain and the LVN needs to understand pain and how it affects their patients’ and the family members.
- Ability to multi-task and switch roles quickly.
- A desire to help people
- Attention to detail is a very important and must pay attention to the physician and the patients, understand instructions and ask questions when necessary.
- Critical thinking and logical reasoning skills
- Ability to confidently educate patients in order to guide patients to follow instructions given and encourage healthy behaviors.
- Must possess an understanding of how the body and organs function and knowledge of the musculoskeletal system.
- Assist the physician with minimally invasive procedures while maintaining sterile technique.
- Demonstrate the ability to understand medical terms and be able to interpret and communicate the physician’s assessments and prescriptions.
- Problem solving skills and the ability to take proactive decisions in the absence of the physician.
- Excellent at time management.
