Job Description

Restore Family Counseling, Inc. is seeking a qualified Child and Adolescent Therapist to provide outpatient counseling services to children, adolescents, and their families throughout the greater Roanoke Valley region of Southwest Virginia.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children, adolescents, and families and will be committed to helping young clients develop healthy coping skills, improve emotional well-being, strengthen relationships, and achieve their best potential.

Restore Family Counseling is a small, private practice located in Roanoke County. We provide quality care that clients can count on. Our ultimate goal is to restore clients so they can achieve their BEST potential. We offer a warm, collaborative work environment with freedom and flexibility in scheduling, opportunities for professional development, and clinical support.

This position is primarily in-office, with some remote telehealth options available.

Overview

The Child and Adolescent Therapist will provide individual, family, and group counseling services to children and adolescents in a private practice outpatient setting. The therapist will work collaboratively with parents/caregivers and other professionals involved in the client's care to support the emotional, behavioral, social, and mental health needs of each client.

General Responsibilities

  • Provide client-focused individual, family, and group psychotherapy to children and adolescents in an outpatient setting.
  • Establish open, supportive, and age-appropriate lines of communication with children, adolescents, and their families.
  • Develop and maintain strong therapeutic relationships with clients and caregivers.
  • Utilize developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions and evidence-based practices.
  • Address a variety of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, behavioral challenges, trauma, family conflict, emotional regulation, social concerns, and adjustment difficulties.
  • Maintain a client-centered approach utilizing cultural sensitivity, the client's personal goals, family strengths, and the therapist's compassion and clinical knowledge.
  • Collaborate with parents, caregivers, schools, physicians, and other treatment providers as appropriate.
  • Implement, monitor, and regularly review individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide psychoeducation and support to parents and caregivers when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with additional treatment providers, schools, community resources, and placement agencies as needed.
  • Ensure all clinical documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain clinical documentation and utilize electronic health record systems.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and clinical supervision for collaboration, consultation, and professional development.
  • Adhere to applicable professional ethical standards, including the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics and/or the ethical standards applicable to the clinician's professional license.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Human Services, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field required.
  • Active Virginia licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) preferred.
  • Pre-licensed applicants are welcome to apply. Applicants must be eligible for approval by the Virginia Board of Counseling as a Resident in Counseling or Resident in Marriage and Family Therapy and must adhere to the requirements established by the Virginia Department of Health Professions. Supervisees in Social Work are also welcome to apply; assistance obtaining appropriate clinical supervision toward LCSW licensure will be provided.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, and/or families strongly preferred.
  • At least one year of experience providing mental health counseling preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build rapport and establish trusting relationships with children, adolescents, parents, and caregivers.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development and common mental health concerns affecting children and adolescents.
  • Familiarity with community mental health resources and referral services.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with families, schools, treatment providers, and community agencies.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to attend regular staff meetings and clinical supervision.
  • Ability to pass all required Child Protective Services, criminal history, and DMV background checks.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently.
  • Must possess a positive, hopeful, compassionate, and professional attitude.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year

License/Certification:

  • Driver's License (Preferred)
