Salary Range: $98,000 – $118,000 annually

The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Junior Security Assessor to support a federal government customer in Washington, DC. This is an on-site role supporting Assessment & Authorization (A&A), continuous monitoring, and ongoing authorization activities for Department of Commerce (DOC) National Security Systems. The Junior Security Assessor will work closely with senior team members to support compliance with NIST SP 800-53 and DOC cybersecurity policies.
What You’ll Do
- Assist in planning and executing system security assessments and developing Authorization to Operate (ATO) documentation
- Review and provide recommendations on PIAs, TPWA assessments, and security artifacts
- Support Assessment & Authorization (A&A) and continuous monitoring activities, including control assessments and documentation updates
- Contribute to development of Security Assessment Plans (SAPs), Security Assessment Reports (SARs), and POA&Ms
- Conduct initial risk assessments by analyzing vulnerabilities, threats, likelihood, and impact
- Participate in briefings with ISSOs, System Owners, and Authorizing Officials (AOs)
- Support vulnerability management, scanning requirements, and change management activities
- Perform IV&V reviews of POA&M closure evidence
- Upload and manage artifacts within eMASS and provide basic user support
- Generate reports, track deliverables, and support ongoing authorization efforts
What We’re Looking For
- ACTIVE TOP SECRET CLEARANCE (SCI ELIGIBLE)
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field and 4–6 years of relevant experience OR
- 6–8 years of relevant IT/cybersecurity experience in lieu of a degree
- Hands-on knowledge of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and NIST SP 800-53
- Experience using eMASS (REQUIRED)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience supporting A&A activities, security assessments, and compliance efforts
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to brief technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills
- Experience with Tenable Security Center, Nessus, or ACAS
- Familiarity with continuous monitoring and vulnerability management processes
- Experience supporting federal cybersecurity programs
- CompTIA Security
- (ISC)² CISSP or Associate of CISSP
- Equivalent industry cybersecurity certifications
This is an ON-SITE POSITION (5 DAYS PER WEEK) within a secure federal facility. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
