Position Summary
The EHS Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing the environmental health and safety program across all company operations. This includes ensuring regulatory compliance, managing safety training, performing jobsite and vehicle inspections, and fostering a proactive safety culture. This role requires field presence, collaboration with management, and a strong understanding of federal, state, and local regulations related to asbestos abatement and construction.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including Cal/OSHA, DOT, EPA, BAAQMD, and DTSC.
- Submit and maintain OSHA 300 and 300A logs annually.
- Ensure policies and procedures are reviewed and updated annually.
Field Safety Operations
- Review personal air sampling results on all asbestos abatement jobs.
- Review hazardous waste transporting and manifests for accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure all personnel required to wear respirators are clean-shaven and properly fitted.
- Conduct six (6) jobsite safety inspections weekly and follow up on any safety violations or concerns.
- Oversee and enforce the proper use of PPE and conduct training in PPE use as necessary.
- Implement and monitor Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) documentation for each project.
- Perform weekly vehicle inspections and oversee 90-day BIT inspections and related maintenance.
Training & Orientation
- Coordinate with the Operations and Office Managers to ensure all employee trainings are current.
- Conduct new hire safety orientation with the Operations Manager.
- Implement and schedule weekly toolbox tailgate talks.
- Facilitate annual workplace violence training and other required safety trainings.
- Ensure all temp workers and PRI employees have current asbestos physicals, medical clearance, and fit testing documentation.
- Work with external training providers to ensure all certifications and regulatory requirements are met.
Safety Program Oversight
- Lead the development and implementation of the company’s Emergency Action Plans.
- Fleet safety training & compliance.
- Ensure warehouse and office safety compliance.
- Investigate and follow up on all near-misses, first aid incidents, injuries and vehicle accidents.
- Coordinate with medical clinics and manage incident response and reporting.
- Enforce company safety policies, including disciplinary action for non-compliance.
- Oversee corrective action with any staff failing to meet company expectations.
Culture & Engagement
- Work closely with the Operations Manager and Crew Supervisors to drive a positive safety culture.
- Develop and administer incentive programs to reward safe behavior and compliance.
- Quarterly visits to the Orange, CA location to ensure consistent safety compliance.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in construction safety or environmental health & safety (asbestos abatement experience highly preferred).
- Strong knowledge of Cal/OSHA, DOT, EPA, and HAZWOPER regulations.
- Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor certification.
- Valid California driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in both office and field environments.
- Must be physically able to perform site inspections, including climbing ladders and stairs when necessary.
