Job Title: Activity Specialist
Immediate Supervisor: Recreational Therapist
Job Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt 

Job Summary: 
The Activity Specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing recreational, therapeutic, and social activities that enhance the quality of life, promote independence, and support the developmental and emotional needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in an ICF/IID setting.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Plan and facilitate daily, weekly, and monthly individual and group activities that are age-appropriate, meaningful, and aligned with each individual's habilitation goals.
• Work closely with the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) to incorporate individual preferences and abilities into the activity schedule.
• Document participation, progress, and any significant behavioral or emotional responses during activities.
• Assist in developing individualized Activity Support Plans as part of the Individual Habilitation Plan (IHP).
• Encourage participation, socialization, and skill development through structured and leisure activities.
• Promote community inclusion by coordinating off-site outings and events, ensuring appropriate supervision and safety.
• Maintain activity supplies, equipment, and budget, and ensure materials are safe, clean, and age-appropriate.
• Monitor and protect the health, safety, and rights of all individuals during activities.
• Collaborate with direct care staff to promote carryover of activity-related goals in daily routines.
• Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development related to therapeutic recreation and person-centered planning.

Education: 

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy, Psychology, Education, or related field preferred.

Skills: 

• Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is strongly preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Must meet state and federal requirements for working in an ICF/IID setting, including background check and required training.

Certifications: 

• CPR and First Aid certification 

• Professional Crisis Management certification (or obtained within a specified timeframe) 

• Must pass background checks and have a valid driver’s license, as transportation of individuals may be required 

Physical Requirements: 
Ability to stand, sit, bend, lift, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and move intermittently. Use hands to handle or feel. Ability to turn on the knees, back, wrist, shoulders, and grasp with both hands. Must be able to lift/move up to 50 lbs.  Ability to transport individuals in facility or community settings with proper safety measures.

Salary : $21 - $24
