The Process Engineering Manager – Fleet Maintenance is responsible for leading and optimizing the maintenance planning, scheduling, workflow management, and operational processes supporting fleet operations, including heavy-duty tractors and trailers.

This role focuses on driving maintenance process efficiency, improving asset availability, reducing downtime, and implementing standardized workflows across multiple shop locations. The position will lead maintenance scheduling strategy, labor productivity analysis, KPI reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure maintenance operations are executed efficiently, consistently, and in alignment with company objectives.

The ideal candidate combines operational leadership with strong process engineering, planning, scheduling, and analytical capabilities to improve maintenance execution, workforce utilization, and overall fleet reliability.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Maintenance Operations and Process Management:

  • Lead the coordination, planning, prioritization, and scheduling of fleet maintenance and repair activities across regional shop operations.
  • Develop standardized maintenance workflows, processes, and operating procedures to improve consistency, efficiency, and asset uptime.
  • Monitor fleet maintenance KPIs including downtime, backlog, PM compliance, labor utilization, work order completion, and asset availability.
  • Analyze maintenance trends, workflow bottlenecks, and operational inefficiencies to implement corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Drive process optimization initiatives focused on reducing turnaround time, increasing wrench time, and improving shop throughput.
  • Coordinate maintenance scheduling with operations teams to minimize disruption to field activities and maximize equipment utilization.
  • Ensure maintenance planning and execution activities are accurately documented within Fleetio and other operational systems.

Preventive Maintenance & Reliability

  • Lead preventive maintenance and reliability programs focused on reducing recurring breakdowns, road calls, and unplanned downtime.
  • Utilize repair history, PM compliance, labor data, and component lifecycle trends to support data-driven maintenance strategies and resource planning.

Operational Efficiency & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor shop performance and labor productivity across multiple maintenance locations.
  • Implement Lean, process engineering, and workflow improvement initiatives to improve maintenance efficiency, technician utilization, and parts flow while reducing waste and costs.
  • Develop dashboards, reporting tools, and operational metrics to improve visibility, decision-making, and process scalability.

Workforce Leadership & Resource Planning

  • Lead and support supervisors, planners, and maintenance personnel through structured operational management and accountability processes.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, process discipline, and operational excellence.
  • Support workforce planning, labor forecasting, staffing alignment, and technician development focused on productivity and process execution.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching to improve operational performance and efficiency.

Financial Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Support maintenance budgeting, forecasting, expense management, and resource allocation activities.
  • Monitor maintenance spend, labor efficiency, outsourcing costs, and inventory utilization to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Partner with Operations, HSE, HR, Procurement, and executive leadership to align maintenance processes, systems, and operational initiatives with business objectives.



Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, automotive technology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing a large fleet of vehicles, multiple site locations, or large scale projects and employees.
  • Ability to anticipate business needs and plan accordingly to ensure that equipment. employee and fiscal resources are utilized in the most efficient manner.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience in budgeting, forecasting, and P&L management.
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse workforce.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of effectively interacting with employees, customers, and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a data-driven and results-oriented approach.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software and technology tools for operational management.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license that meets the Company’s insurance requirements.
  • Be able to read, write, and speak English.
