JOB SUMMARY
The Truck Driver is responsible for greeting and offering assistance to customers with responsibilities of handling donation pickup and delivery operations, moving and transporting small to large household items, and maintaining company transport vehicles. This job supports the Resource & Crisis Center of Galveston County, Inc. (RCCGC) resale stores and operations by organizing inventory, completing logs and inspections, assisting with facility upkeep, and collaborating with team members to ensure efficient service and positive customer interactions. This position may also support in merchandizing, operational, warehouse and cashier functions as assigned by the store manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist in organizing the sales floor to make room for the items that will be picked up.
- Complete a daily truck log and submit reports of mileage covered at end of each shift.
- Map and manage routes, beginning with the furthest location.
- Call donors to schedule pick up.
- Pick up large donated items and deliver/unload them to the appropriate RCC resale or customers.
- Maintain the vehicle in working condition including keeping it clean inside and outside.
- Conduct daily inspections of the vehicle at the end of each shift and report any problems or damage to management.
- Wash the vehicle and perform a deep cleaning at least once a month.
- Stock and maintain the vehicle with necessary supplies (rope, dolly, gloves, etc.).
- Collaborate and work side by side with other Truck Driver(s) and Resale Clerks to provide excellent customer service to all customers and clients; while being friendly and courteous and establishing a positive rapport with all.
- Bring in any donations that were left outside the resale shop after hours.
- Remove all large trash from the shops and take it to the dumpster.
- Other duties as assigned.
WORK SCHEDULE
40 hours per week. Schedule to be determined with the Director of Retail Operations. Some weekend and evening hours may be required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate various office machines and/or equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to speak and hear clearly. The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift approximately 80 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job which is 20% indoors and the other 80% traveling and/or outdoors.
SUPERVISOR AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position reports to the Director of Retail Operations. There are no direct reports to this position.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Required:
- Must have a valid TX driver’s license and auto insurance, in good standing.
- No DUI, DWI in the past 10 years. No serious tickets or accidents in last 5 years.
- Must be able to work flexible hours.
- Must be able to travel approximately 80% of the time.
- Must be able to work in and adapt the culture of a multi-cultural, community based organization.
- Must understand and embody RCCGC’s mission and culture and the ability to maintain appropriate rapport and boundaries with staff and volunteers in all circumstances.
- Must have good inter-personal skills, ability to relate well with persons from a variety socioeconomic and cultural groups.
- Regular attendance is required.
Preferred:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
- High school diploma or GED.
- Commercial driving experience.
- Prior retail work experience.
