JOB SUMMARY

The Grant Writer is responsible for researching, developing, and submitting grant proposals to federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as pursuing funding through partnerships, sponsorships, foundations, and fundraising initiatives. These efforts support the Resource and Crisis Center of Galveston County (RCC) in meeting the ongoing needs and service priorities of both non-residential and residential clients, including shelter operations. The Grant Writer also supports post-award activities, including quarterly and annual reporting, documentation, and compliance tracking. In addition, this position develops and maintains effective, productive relationships with government agencies, businesses, foundations, organizations, trusts, and donors within the communities served by RCC. This role plays a critical part in securing sustainable funding that advances the agency’s mission and expands its community impact.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Will be required to gain knowledge and full compliance understanding of the following federal and state grants: Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC); Texas Office of the Governor (OOG), which includes the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA); Texas Office of the Attorney General (OAG); Housing and Urban Development (HUD); U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) which includes Office of Victims of Crime (OVC) and Violence Against Women’s Act (VAWA).
  • Must know and adhere to the Texas Administrative Code (TAC) as it pertains to domestic violence and sexual assault programs which lays out the official guidelines, eligibility criteria, program requirements, and operational rules for the grant program; best practice standards as advocated by the state coalition partners – Texas Council on Family Violence (TCFV) and Texas Association Against Sexual Assault (TAASA).
  • Responsible for conducting the full range of duties required to research, prepare, submit and manage grant proposals to federal, state and local government and private grant sources.
  • Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to identify potential sources of funding and evaluate prospects.
  • Works with program management to gain relevant information for proposals for necessary information needed or required for each grant submittal. 
  • Comply with all grant reporting as required by grant funding and donors.
  • Work with the Human Resources & Finance Manager to implement and maintain a thorough and efficient grant and budget system. 
  • Provide monthly and quarterly progress reporting and maintain grant files, including grant tracking and performance reporting.
  • Use innovative approaches to existing and future target funders to build and maintain support.
  • Assist with other periodic fundraising projects as needed.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned by the reporting manager.

 

WORK SCHEDULE

Forty (40) hours per week, Monday through Friday. Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required depending on project.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate various office machines and/or equipment; and reach with hands and arms and lift approximately 20 lbs. The employee frequently is required to speak and hear clearly and have clear, focused vision, required by this job.  The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job which is primarily an office environment.

 

SUPERVISOR AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

This position reports to the Human Resources & Finance Manager. There are no direct reports to this role.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or another related field; combination of college business or finance coursework and minimum two (2) years of demonstrated work experience of grant writing and fund development.
  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – Outlook (email), Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publishing programs.
  • Working knowledge of data collection, analysis, and ability to evaluate and audit.
  • Organized, high level of detail, strong research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex Request for Proposal (RFP), regulations, and grant compliance requirements.
  • Professional integrity, confidentiality and sense of responsibility and accountability.
  • Demonstrated and effective written communications skills with clear, structured, articulate and persuasive proposals, with copy edit experience.
  • Able to work in and adapt to a multi-cultural, community-based organization.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours when needed on a timeline project.
  • Understand and embody RCC’s mission and culture and the ability to maintain appropriate rapport and boundaries with staff and volunteers in all circumstances.
  • Must pass criminal background check.
