Compounds and dispenses pharmaceuticals, including sterile, chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition
products
Dispenses controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records
Maintains the formulary by minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic
substitution protocols and promoting rational drug therapy selection.
Provides direction to pharmacy personnel and ensures effective operation of the pharmacy
department. Verifies the daily activities of pharmacy technicians, interns and residents.
Complies with standards or rules and regulations of regulatory agencies: TJC, TX State Board of
Pharmacy, TX Department of Health, OSHA, DEA, TX Department of Public Safety, EEOC / TEC
Summary:
Responsible for maintaining pharmaceutical dispensing functions, including clinical review functions, in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements. Provides pharmaceutical care and products to all neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, including inpatients and outpatients. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate of accredited College of Pharmacy
PREFERRED EDUCATION: NA
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Hospital Internship Rotation
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Hospital experience
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Possession of current Texas State Board of Pharmacy License
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: IV Admixture Certification
REQUIRED COURSES/ COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR): NA
