Resist Booksellers is looking for a new member of the family! Experienced booksellers ONLY!
Our booksellers, among many other things, connects readers with the right titles and provides expert genre recommendations. They also excel at handselling, inventory management, merchandising, and processing sales, while also helping coordinate in-store events and mentoring junior staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Service & Sales: Provide personalized, expert book recommendations based on customer interests and current publishing trends.
- Handselling & Promotions: Actively promote the store loyalty programs, membership subscriptions, and pre-orders to meet sales objectives.
- Merchandising & Displays: Curate attractive, eye-catching in-store and window displays to highlight new releases and seasonal picks.
- Inventory Management: Receive, unpack, and shelve deliveries. Process returns, track shipments, and assist with periodic inventory counts.
- POS Operations: Accurately process cash, credit transactions, and special orders using modern POS systems.
- Store Maintenance: Ensure the sales floor is organized, clean, and welcoming.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Industry Knowledge: Deep, broad knowledge of book titles, authors, and genres across fiction, non-fiction, and children's literature.
- Retail Experience: 2 years of experience in retail bookstore environments, with proven cash-handling and POS skills.
- Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and verbal skills to comfortably engage with a diverse customer base.
- Physical Demands: Ability to stand for prolonged periods, frequently bend, and lift boxes weighing up to 40 lbs.
Preferential Qualifications:
- Community Experience: Deep knowledge and experience in the city of Petersburg, VA.
- Retail Experience: 4 years of experience in retail bookstore environments, with proven cash-handling and POS skills.
