Role Description
This is a contract, remote role located in Florida for a Designer / CAD Specialist. The role involves creating and updating technical drawings using CAD software, preparing construction drawings, and collaborating with engineers to develop designs that meet project requirements. The specialist will assist in translating design concepts into accurate technical documentation while ensuring compliance with project standards and industry best practices. This role is ideal for someone with strong electrical design experience who can interpret engineering intent, work independently, and deliver high quality CAD work efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Produce electrical design drawings: power plans, lighting plans, one lines, risers, panel schedules
- Interpret engineering sketches and convert them into complete drawing packages
- Incorporate redlines and maintain drafting standards
- Coordinate with the engineer to clarify design intent
- Deliver DWG PDF files for review
- Maintain consistent layer standards, title blocks, and templates
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience as an electrical designer or senior electrical drafter
- Working NEC knowledge (load calcs, panel schedules, clearances, emergency systems)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Ability to work independently and produce near permit-ready drawings
- Strong communication and reliable turnaround times
Preferred (Not Required)
- 3D drafting/modeling experience (AutoCAD 3D, Revit, or similar)
- Photometric layouts (Dialux)
- Generator/ATS/UPS/BESS packages
- Utility coordination drawings
- Commercial TI design
- BIM coordination
- Experience drafting natural gas distribution or mechanical piping
