What You Will Be Doing
- Assist attorneys with preparing, reviewing, and filing bankruptcy documents, including motions for relief from the automatic stay, reaffirmation agreements, proofs of claim, objections to Chapter 13 plans, complaints for nondischargeability, and related notices, declarations, exhibits, proposed orders, and certificates of service.
- Track calendars and deadlines for bankruptcy matters.
- Perform electronic filing through CM/ECF in the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Central Districts of California.
- Review bankruptcy dockets, case filings, schedules, plans, and court notices.
- Communicate with attorneys, court personnel, clients, and opposing counsel as appropriate.
- Maintain organized case files and ensure compliance with court procedures, local rules, and attorney instructions.
- Minimum five years of bankruptcy legal assistant or paralegal experience.
- Demonstrated experience preparing and filing documents in the bankruptcy courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Central Districts of California.
- Experience preparing and filing motions for relief from the automatic stay, reaffirmation agreements, proofs of claim, objections to Chapter 13 plans, and complaints for nondischargeability.
- Strong familiarity with CM/ECF filing procedures.
- Ability to review court dockets and identify relevant deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow attorney instructions carefully.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced legal environment.
- Preferred: Creditor-side bankruptcy experience, experience working with financial institutions, lenders, credit unions, or auto finance matters, familiarity with Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy procedures, knowledge of California bankruptcy local rules and judge-specific procedures, experience preparing exhibits, declarations, proposed orders, and service documents.
- Paralegal certificate or equivalent legal education preferred, but not required with sufficient experience.
