Position Summary
This is a senior tradesperson who works directly alongside our in-house HandyFolk crew, acts as a mentor to apprentices and other teammates, and takes responsibility for facilitating day-to-day productivity and safety on our jobsites. The Leading Hand will also collaborate with the team’s Project/Program Managers (PMs) and Customer Care Reps (CRs) to help with project planning, process improvement, and reviewing the quality of our work, as well as that of our outside hired laborers and subcontractors.
What Success Looks Like
• 30 days: Meet the team, learn our values and the intention of our systems, shadow jobs, and begin leading/mentoring with support.
• 60 days: Independently act as Lead Hand and start outlining opportunities for growth of teammates.
• 90 days: Start measurably improving project delivery efficiency and quality with no reduced customer satisfaction or safety records. Deliverables: 1. Help finish RD’s training, badging and advancement plan for Handyfolk positions. 2. Make top 3 recommendations for process improvement for the whole company.
Responsibilities
• Hands-on support of day-to-day field operations for jobs most needing the talent and/or teaching of the Lead HandyFolk.
• Supervise and mentor handyfolk and reinforce quality, safety and cleanliness expectations of subcontractors on site.
• Coordinate with the project manager to keep jobs organized, on schedule, and communicated clearly.
• Maintain high standards for safety, quality, cleanliness, and professionalism.
• Help train team members in trade skills, workflow, and company standards.
• Identify issues early and solve problems without needing constant owner involvement.
• Support job completion by checking scope, materials, site readiness, and final punch work.
• Represent Resilience Developers well with customers, trade partners, and subcontractors.
• Document job progress, crew needs, and recurring issues to improve systems over time.
• Help improve existing processes and consistency of this still-young company.
Qualifications
• Strong hands-on experience in residential and small commercial construction, remodeling, repairs, and general experience with multiple trades.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and teach others with positive reinforcement as the primary tool.
• Comfortable supervising a team while still working in the field.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Organized, dependable, and able to hold others accountable respectfully.
• Comfortable working in a growing company where systems are still being built.
• Current ability to use email, cell phones, and other communications technologies most commonly utilized in the industry.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for Tucson-area jobsites.
• No convictions or terminations for any violent crime within the last consecutive 20 years.
• No convictions or terminations for theft within the last consecutive 20 years.
Preferred Experience
• Multi-trade background in areas such as carpentry, drywall, tile, flooring, plumbing support, electrical support, or similar work. This does not require mastery. We utilize specialty contractors for trades outside our license or capability. We are generalists in this way.
• Prior experience as a lead tech, foreman, superintendent, crew leader, or trainer.
• Experience working with homeowners, subcontractors, or small business construction teams.
• Experience improving workflow, quality control, or training systems.
