POSITION: Medical Secretary
STATUS: Non-Exempt
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
A medical secretary performs a variety of administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the medical department. The duties of Medical Secretary include, but are not limited to scheduling appointments, tasking, managing patient flow, faxing, prescription requests, referrals, as well as any other duty assigned by supervisor. We are a growing Practice with six physicians and one nurse practitioner. The Medical Secretary will be responsible for numerous administrative tasks in the front of the office, including many patient-facing responsibilities.
Consequently, we’re looking for a professional with excellent customer service skills and a genuine desire to help patients receive the care they need.
DUTIES:
- Welcomes patients to our office.
- Registers patients and collects co-payments.
- Handles phone calls and books appointments as appropriate.
- Verify insurance information over the phone when the patient makes the appointment, then again upon patient arrival.
- Task appropriate provider messages and follows-up.
- Checks out patient and schedules next appointment prior to patient leaving the office.
- Coordinates diagnostic tests, treatments, and other necessary care with appropriate facilities and professionals.
- Works together within his/her assigned team to ensure that daily tasks are being done and assistance is being provided to the team.
- Request the patient’s records before the scheduled appointment.
- Files and scanned all proper documentations in our EHR/EPIC system.
- Performs other duties as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma /GED required. College grad preferred.
- Mature, responsible individual; team-oriented.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Experience in health care or demonstrated interest in technical on -the- job training.
- Ability to work under pressure and flexibility to function in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with insurance plans.
- Excellent phone manners
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
- EPIC experienced
