Title: Labeling Manager

Location: Corporate

Reports to: Director, Food Safety & Policy

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Summary:

The Food Labeling Manager serves as Reser’s subject matter expert on North American food labeling regulations and lead a team of corporate labeling professionals to ensure all product and case labels meet regulatory and company standards.

Essential Position Functions: 

1. Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of food labeling policies, procedures, and workflows to ensure compliance with FDA, FSIS, CFIA, and other applicable regulations.

2. Oversee the evaluation and validation of technical label content, including BOMs, ingredient specifications, allergen statements, nutrition profiles, and claims substantiation.

3. Maintain accurate and complete labeling records in alignment with corporate, regulatory, and customer requirements.

4. Collaborate with facility leadership to resolve labeling challenges and implement tools that ensure label proofs are accessible for compliance checks.

5. Spearhead the re-launch of the corporate case labeling initiative, establishing a centralized database and supporting implementation timelines.

6. Monitor labeling project performance using KPIs, reports results to leadership, and drive continuous improvement.

7. Interpret and apply U.S. and international food labeling regulations, proactively identifying risks and proposing mitigation strategies.

8. Translate regulatory language into clear, business-relevant guidance that supports informed decision-making and commercial objectives.

9. Communicate current and emerging regulatory and customer labeling requirements to internal stakeholders to ensure timely transitions and compliance.

10. Lead and participate in cross-functional teams for customer projects, new product development, and reformulations, ensuring labeling requirements are met.

11. Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders -including R&D, Marketing, and Operations -to align labeling strategies with business priorities.

12. Provide training, coaching, and mentorship to labeling team members to enhance technical expertise, regulatory acumen, and collaboration skills.

13. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and innovation within the labeling team.

14. Demonstrate sound judgement and problem-solving skills in ambiguous or fast-paced environments, balancing compliance with business agility.

15. Support audits and respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies related to labeling compliance.

 

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Regulatory Affairs, Biological Sciences, or a related field.

• 5 years of experience in food labeling compliance for US (FDA & FSIS), Canada, and Mexico.

• 3 years of experience leading and developing technical teams, including performance management and coaching.

• FSMA, PCQI, HACCP Certifications preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Demonstrated ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable business guidance.

• Strong business orientation with the ability to balance regulatory rigor with operational and commercial needs.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams.

• Proven success implementing scalable labeling policies and processes.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in dynamic or ambiguous environments.

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, labeling software, and nutrition databases.

 

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: 

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer required while in the office.

• Must be able to occasionally life items up to 20lbs.

• Requires the ability to travel to various work locations by car or plane up to 40% of time.

• Sufficient skills to read/review product labels, instructions, or job aids.

• The environment may be wet or dry and temperatures may range from 25°F to 110°F

• Office environment

• Flexible schedule may be required based on business needs.

 

Exempt only:  This position is eligible for a bonus based on company goals/performance.
