Position Summary:
The Volunteer Coordinator plays a key role in leading, supporting, and growing Rescued Pets Movement’s (RPM) volunteer program. This position oversees the recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, and ongoing engagement of volunteers across all areas of RPM’s operations. The role requires an outgoing personality, strong interpersonal skills, the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, and a passion for both people and animals. The Volunteer Coordinator ensures volunteers are well-prepared, appreciated, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in RPM’s mission to save homeless pets in Houston.
Key Responsibilities:Volunteer Program Management
- Recruit, onboard, and train volunteers for roles including transport support, clinic help, events, and administrative tasks.
- Maintain an accurate volunteer database, including contact info, availability, and role assignments.
- Schedule and coordinate volunteer shifts, ensuring all coverage needs are met with clear communication.
- Develop and implement orientation sessions and training materials.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all volunteers; address questions and resolve issues as they arise.
- Maintain regular communication with volunteers through email, social media, and one-on-one outreach.
- Track volunteer hours and recognize contributions through thank-you notes, shoutouts, and small appreciation efforts.
Community Outreach & Event Support
- Represent RPM at adoption events, community fairs, and volunteer recruitment drives.
- Engage new audiences and expand the volunteer base through local outreach.
Hands-On Animal Care (Occasional)
- Assist with pet care tasks as needed, especially during emergencies, high-volume days, or staffing shortages.
- This may include feeding, walking, kennel cleaning, or crate setup. Comfort around dogs and cats is essential.
Marketing & Communications (Bonus Skill)
- Create basic digital flyers, social posts, or training materials using Canva.
- Help promote volunteer opportunities and successes via social media or email newsletters.
Qualifications:
- Outgoing and energetic, with a natural ability to lead and connect with people.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Clear communicator with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-moving environment.
- Passion for animals and willingness to provide hands-on care as needed.
- Computer fluency required (email, spreadsheets, shared drives).
- Experience with Canva or other design platforms is a bonus.
- Social media experience (especially in a professional or engagement-focused context) is a plus.
- Experience in animal welfare is helpful but not required—enthusiastic applicants from teaching, hospitality, events, or customer-facing roles are encouraged to apply!
Work Environment:
- Based on-site at RPM’s Houston facility.
- Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday (weekend availability required).
- After a 90-day period and demonstrated reliability, partial remote work (1–2 days per week) may be considered.
- Active, hands-on environment where flexibility and comfort with animals are essential.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
