Operations Manager Environmental Solutions

The Operations Manager, Environmental Solutions works with other leaders in the business unit to execute a local market strategy that complements the Energy and Environmental Division's overall strategic operating and marketing plans and implements tactical initiatives to drive operational excellence and business performance.

This role serves as the senior operational leader for a field-based environmental services operation and is responsible for all aspects of operational execution, employee leadership, customer relationships, safety performance, compliance, and financial results. The Operations Manager leads a team of supervisors, field personnel, and drivers supporting industrial and environmental services customers across a range of specialized services, including remediation, tank cleaning, decontamination, confined space entry, and emergency response operations.

The Operations Manager oversees all matters related to assigned operations, implements effective safety and accident prevention programs, ensures compliance with all regulatory and company standards, and drives continuous improvement initiatives that support the growth, stability, and long-term success of the business.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for managing employees, including hiring, training, coaching, development, and performance management.
• Leads supervisors, field personnel, and drivers to ensure safe and efficient execution of environmental services operations.
• Develops supervisory goals and operational objectives that align with business unit priorities.
• Resolves safety issues, incidents, and claims while promoting a culture of accountability and operational excellence.
• Monitors and ensures compliance with all safety, environmental, regulatory, and equipment maintenance policies and procedures.
• Drives operational plans and initiatives that support business growth, customer satisfaction, and achievement of budget objectives.
• Leads all matters related to operations to ensure safety, compliance, service quality, productivity, and P&L objectives are achieved.
• Manages customer relationships and serves as a customer-facing leader, ensuring a high level of service and responsiveness.
• Oversees contractor relationships and ensures external resources meet company expectations for safety and performance.
• Establishes productivity goals, monitors operating standards, and manages labor hours and operating expenses.
• Coordinates with maintenance teams to ensure equipment remains operational and compliant with safety standards.
• Supports emergency response operations and coordinates resources to respond to unplanned customer needs when required.
• Maintains visibility in the field to support crews, understand operational challenges, and build credibility with frontline employees.
• Implements and maintains effective safety and loss-control programs to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience leading environmental services, industrial services, or closely related field service operations.
• Experience managing multiple operational functions, teams, or service lines.
• Strong people leadership experience managing supervisors and frontline employees.
• Customer-facing leadership experience with responsibility for customer relationships and service delivery.
• Experience managing operational budgets and P&L performance.
• Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment that includes emergency response and changing operational priorities.
• Experience with environmental services organizations such as Clean Harbors, EnviroServe, EPI, Boston Green, or similar companies is preferred.
• Experience with remediation, tank cleaning, decontamination, confined space entry, emergency response, or related environmental service offerings is preferred.
• Branch Manager or senior operations leadership experience is preferred.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or management experience or participation in Republic Services' management trainee program.
• Demonstrated experience leading environmental services, industrial services, field services, or closely related operations.
• Experience managing employee performance, safety programs, and operational execution.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel within the assigned market as required.
