Job Title: Elementary Literacy Coach

We are seeking an Elementary Literacy Instructional Coach who believes deeply in early literacy development, the science of reading, and the power of strong teacher coaching to drive scholar achievement. The Elementary Literacy Coach is expected to model and champion these beliefs, ensuring teachers design learning experiences that honor scholar brilliance, build foundational reading and writing skills, and expand opportunities for academic success.
What You’ll Do
Instructional Leadership & Coaching (Early Literacy)
- Develop a strategic coaching plan aligned to elementary literacy priorities, including foundational skills, comprehension, reading fluency, and early writing development.
- Conduct consistent observations and provide actionable feedback aligned to structured literacy practices.
- Lead coaching cycles incorporating modeling of phonics lessons, read-aloud routines, small-group guided reading, and interactive writing.
- Support implementation of early literacy frameworks including:
- Phonological awareness
- Phonics & decoding
- High-frequency word instruction
- Oral language development
- Emergent writing
Instructional Planning & Teacher Support
- Guide teachers in planning lessons aligned to the Science of Reading and state standards.
- Support internalization of curriculum including foundational skills block, shared reading, and writing workshop.
- Facilitate weekly literacy planning meetings and PLCs.
- Help novice teachers build instructional habits and routines that drive strong scholar literacy outcomes.
Data-Driven Literacy Instruction
- Support teachers in analyzing literacy data (e.g., MKAS, iReady Screeners, Dyslexia Screeners, exit tickets, etc.)
- Diagnose learning gaps and create targeted intervention groups.
- Monitor scholar growth and adjust coaching to ensure teachers make data-informed decisions.
Professional Learning & Development
- Design and facilitate PD in early literacy practices, foundational skills, fluency routines, and guided reading.
- Model strong collaboration and problem-solving during PLCs.
- Provide ongoing training in curriculum implementation, assessment usage, and reading/writing instructional strategies.
Instructional Systems & Alignment
- Ensure teachers implement literacy curriculum, pacing, and structured systems with fidelity.
Maintain coaching records and contribute to schoolwide academic alignment. - Additional duties assigned
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least 3 years of successful elementary ELA/literacy teaching experience
- Demonstrated impact on early literacy achievement using most recent data (state assessments, screeners, etc.)
- Expertise in foundational skills and literacy development
Highly Preferred
- Experience as an elementary instructional coach or grade-level lead
- Deep knowledge of structured literacy / Science of Reading
- Experience with curriculum such as Core Knowledge, Wit & Wisdom, EL Education, etc.
