Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Maintenance Supervisor to lead our facilities maintenance team in ensuring the optimal operation, safety, and reliability of our manufacturing environment. In this role, you will oversees all maintenance, reliability, and equipment-improvement activities for a high-speed plastic extrusion and injection molding manufacturing facility. This role ensures that all production lines—including extruders, water-bath systems, pullers, Gatlin rollers, cutters, conveyors, injection molding presses, robotic pickers, dryers, chillers, material-handling systems, and auxiliary equipment—operate safely, efficiently, and consistently to meet production and quality goals.

The Maintenance Supervisor leads a small team of technicians and supports optimization, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement of all manufacturing assets including total site facilities and grounds. This role is critical for ensuring compliance with OSHA, NFPA, electrical safety, LOTO, PM programs, and company safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

1. Maintenance Leadership

  • Supervise, schedule, and develop maintenance technicians across all shifts.

2. Equipment Maintenance & Reliability

  • Manage maintenance of high-speed extrusion lines (e.g., extruder barrels/screws, heaters, gearboxes, pullers, crimpers, cutters, wrappers, air knives, conveyors, cooling systems).
  • in collaboration with the injection molding technicians, manage maintenance of injection molding presses and related auxiliary systems (robots, pick-and-place units, dryers, grinders, chillers, water systems, hydraulics).
  • Lead troubleshooting for mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical failures.
  • Ensure optimal performance of tooling, molds, and downstream equipment.
  • Implement reliability improvements and continuous improvement projects.

3. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a robust Preventive Maintenance (PM) program.
  • Establish predictive maintenance practices for key assets (thermography, lubrication management, vibration monitoring, screw wear tracking, mold PM cycles, etc.).
  • Maintain accurate PM records and ensure compliance for audits.

4. Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce strict compliance with OSHA, LOTO, machine guarding, hot-work permits, electrical safety, confined-space procedures, and company safety policies.
  • Ensure all repairs and installations meet electrical/mechanical codes and NFPA standards.
  • Support safety audits, OSHA inspections, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain up-to-date training for all maintenance personnel (e.g., LOTO, forklift, arc-flash awareness).

5. Inventory & Budget Management

  • Oversee spare parts inventory, reorder points, and critical spares strategy.
  • Manage maintenance budget, vendor relationships, tool control, and capital equipment planning.
  • Evaluate cost-saving opportunities and justify capital expenditure requests.

6. Technical Expertise & Process Improvement

  • Collaborate with production, engineering, quality, and automation teams to improve line performance and reduce downtime.
  • Support installation and commissioning of new equipment, tooling, molds, robotics, and control systems.
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA), 5-Why, 8D, and other problem-solving processes.
  • Recommend improvements to reduce scrap, enhance cycle times, and optimize production capacity.
  • Allocate resources to support production requirements and emergency repairs.
  • Ensure all work orders, PM tasks, and repairs are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Oversee contractor work, including electrical, mechanical, and controls support.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma is required.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering (preferred).
  • 5 years of maintenance leadership experience in plastic extrusion, injection molding, or other high-speed continuous manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of plastic processing equipment and troubleshooting methods.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus

Technical Skills

  • Mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic diagnostics.
  • Experience with PLCs, HMIs, sensors, servo systems, and automation equipment.
  • Knowledge of injection molding press controls, mold setup/PM cycles, and robotics.
  • Familiarity with extrusion barrel/screw wear, cutter/crimper mechanics, gearboxes, thermolators, hydraulics, and chillers.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, electrical schematics, and OEM manuals.

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing facility with high-speed machinery, noise, heat exposure, and moving equipment.
  • Frequent walking, climbing, bending, and work in elevated or confined areas.
  • Must be able to respond to emergencies during nights/weekends as needed.
