Elections Assistant

Selection Process:

Applications will be accepted until position is filled. Candidates will be reviewed as they apply. 

This is a seasonal, intermittent position with flexible hours and days to accommodate your schedule. The pay rate is $20 per hour.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING.  OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED.

• Assist with preparation of election supplies for both mail ballot precincts and polling places including testing of the ballot counters and Express Vote equipment.
• Assist residents with absentee, mail, early and direct balloting voting.
• Process over-the-counter and mail ballots.
• Assist with the maintenance of the Minnesota Statewide Voter Registration System election database.
• Provide excellent customer service and maintain confidentiality.
• Assist with other general office duties which may include opening mail, filing, updating information on computer documents and processing payments.

Performs other Auditor/Treasurer office tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education and/or Experience: The job requires a high school diploma or GED with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in an office setting.  Experience as an election judge is preferred. Ability to multi-task and effectively deal with frequent work interruptions is required.  Must maintain the confidentiality of data.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Requires customer service skills. Experience using Microsoft Office software preferred. Must be able to operate a variety of automated office machines and equipment. (ie: computer, printer, copier, scanner, 10 key adding machine, calculator and postage meter.)  Ability to explain processes and procedures, and to utilize effective critical thinking skills.

Reasoning Ability: Skill to utilize mathematical formulas; add and subtract; multiply and divide totals; determine percentages, time, and weight.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Physical Demands:  This work requires the occasional ability to lift up to 40 lbs; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
