Position Summary:
As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will work in an inpatient setting to consult with, evaluate and treat patients of various ages and diagnosis. You will be expected to first and foremost to provide effective individualized patient care. This includes recognizing the value of trust and rapport in the patient clinician relationship to motivate and encourage our patients to do their best throughout each course of care.
A successful OT at Renue would demonstrate patient centered care through communication, teamwork and compassion. They would also demonstrate integrity, character and honesty while being motivated and enthusiastic about maintaining an open friendly environment for our patients and team members.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
This list is not inclusive; other duties may be assigned such as the key projects assigned by your manager, but will include the following:
- Provide continued treatment plans (PT or OT) for the current swing bed patients. If a patient arrives late on a Friday or early on Saturday, perform an initial evaluation. You will be notified on Friday if an evaluation is required. Patients can be seen at any time during the day that is convenient for the therapist. Mealtimes for patients are as follows, which you may want to avoid for treatment times: Breakfast: 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.; Lunch: 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.; Dinner: 4:45 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.
- Electronic medical record (EMR) is WebPT and small amount in Heathland.
- Consulting with patients to learn about their physical condition; Assessing and interpreting patient evaluations and test results; Developing treatment plans using a variety of treatment techniques based on age, specific cultural and rehabilitative needs.
- Develop rapport and trust with your patients to encourage and motivate them to do their best while undergoing therapy.
- Exercise independent judgement based on experience to direct and provide individualized effective patient care; Communicate and coordinate with patients’ physicians as well as other members of health care team to ensure a consistent level of care; Assisting clients in exercises to minimize injury and promote fitness; Monitoring patient progress; Modifying exercises as needed for patients.
- Teaches, supervises and counsels the patient and family regarding the recovery process, challenges to expect, home exercises injury prevention, ergonomics, ways to promote physical health and other care needs as appropriate to the patient’s condition. Utilizes educational material as appropriate.
- Evaluates the use and fit of prosthetic and orthotic devices by observing, noting and monitoring patient’s progress; and recommending adjustments and modifications.
- Adhere to applicable policies and procedures of company, Federal as well as Michigan state regulations.
- Provides thorough, timely, professional and consistent patient care documentation through the electronic medical record (EMR); evaluations, re-evaluations, progress notes, daily notes and D/C summaries per company policies; Documentation demonstrates minimal to no grammatical errors; Documentation clearly indicates medical necessity and clinical progression towards completion of care.
- Participates in weekly interdisciplinary (IDT) Team meetings.
- Participates in Weekday Swing Bed Meetings/Huddles (can be done remotely).
- Forward all Speech Language Pathology (SLP) notifications to appropriate team members
- Complete all requirements to maintain up to date occupational therapy license including continuing education.
- Assist administrative staff with billing and reporting inquiries.
- Communicates positively, appropriately and in a timely fashion to all communications including patients, co-workers, supervisors, attending physicians, nursing and ancillary support staff, etc.
- Direct and oversee services provided by via PTA.
Qualifications:

Required: Licensed as an Occupational Therapist in the State of Michigan and current CPR certification; Degree in Occupational Therapy preferred (Masters and Bachelors accepted) from an accredited university/OT program.
Preferred: A professional who has a passion to deliver great patient care and experience.
