Job Title: Energy Engineer/Assistant Energy Solutions Project Manager
Job Role: Responsible for assisting the Sr. Energy Engineer and Project Manager in preparing bid responses for Energy Performance Contracts. Will also assist in the development of projects where RENU is selected as the successful bidder.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conduct Level I, II, and III energy audits of K-12/municipal facilities across Long Island and the Hudson Valley area.
- Perform and verify detailed energy consumption and savings calculations; review and validate data and methodologies used by partners.
- Apply specific knowledge of mechanical/HVAC systems, electrical systems, renewable technologies, water systems, and building envelope technologies to evaluate building performance and identify energy-saving opportunities.
- Analyze and interpret utility rate structures, local utility rebate programs, and federal incentives to optimize the financial performance of energy projects.
- Participate in preparing accurate scopes of work and ensure alignment with client expectations and site-specific conditions.
- Evaluate product specifications and design alternatives using Fit, Form, and Function principles to identify the most efficient and cost-effective solutions.
- Perform value engineering to refine project designs and select optimal equipment or manufacturing approaches that enhance project competitiveness.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies, products, and industry best practices to inform project design and recommendations.
- Contribute to developing detailed proposals, cost estimates, and responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
- Understand and assess labor conditions ranging from simple to complex to support accurate cost estimation and project planning.
- Support the development and financial modeling of Energy Performance Contract (EPC) proposals, ensuring alignment with budgetary constraints and expected returns.
- Engage directly with clients to identify needs, budget limitations, and priorities; translate these inputs into technically sound and financially viable proposals.
- Cultivate trusted advisor relationships with clients through clear communication, technical expertise, and responsive service.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and RFP site walk-throughs to gather critical project information and assess feasibility and site-specific challenges.
Educational Requirements:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field is required.
Skill Requirements:
- Expertise in Microsoft Excel, with good working knowledge of other Microsoft products such as Word and Project.
Prior Experience:
- At least (2) years of commercial, non-residential energy savings project experience.
