About the Position:
Rensselaer County is seeking a reliable Security Supervisor to maintain watch over county buildings and property. This role involves shift scheduling, property protection, and providing assistance to the public.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assign and schedule shifts to ensure 24/7 building coverage
- Make rounds at regular intervals to check all premises, windows, doors, and entrances
- Prevent unauthorized access and respond to security concerns
- Check for fire hazards and secure property
- Arrange for backup staffing/substitution as needed
- Assist visitors in locating county offices
- Inspect and monitor air conditioning and heating systems
- Make minor emergency repairs to plumbing, lighting, and heating systems
- Write accurate incident reports as required
Qualifications:
- Some experience in supervising laborers or watchmen
- Completion of a standard grade school course
- General knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of a watchman
- Ability to interact courteously with the public and staff
- Ability to assign and monitor work assignments
- Ability to think and act quickly in emergencies
- Good vision and hearing; physical condition to meet job demands
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, or irregular shifts
- Personal qualities of reliability, courage, integrity, and sobriety
