ASSISTANT NURSING HOME ADMINISTRATOR IN TRAINING
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Assists the Nursing Home Administrator in the general administration of nursing home; does related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is an administrative position involving responsibility for assisting in the overall management and operation of a nursing home, including participation in directing, managing and implementing the policies of a nursing home. Employees in this class work under the general direction of the Nursing Home Executive Director who is available for consultation on complex problems. Supervision is exercised over the work of assigned employees.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only) Assists the Nursing Home Administrator in:
Assist in directing the activities of various units of the nursing home;
Become familiar with the purchase of supplies and equipment and maintaining appropriate inventories;
Become familiar with the physical operation of the nursing home plant including the direction of maintenance and repair:
Participating in the preparation of the annual budget and the maintenance of supporting account records;
Personally explaining nursing home policies and regulations in case of noncompliance and posting general notices of regulations to patients, relatives, visitors and staff;
Cooperating with hospitals and nursing homes in the area to implement programs of in-service of other training for staff members:
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing home administration; working knowledge of modern institutional management and maintenance practices; working knowledge of institutional financial accounts and records; working knowledge of the general medical care field; ability to plan and direct the work of a large staff; good knowledge of the problems of caring for aged infirm persons; ability to prepare clear and concise written and oral reports; dependability, initiative; resourcefulness.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be working toward possession of a New York State Nursing Home Administrators license and must obtain licensure within two years of employment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICAITONS: Either:
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's Degree; at least two (2) years of full-time paid experience in health care institutional business management; or
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master's Degree; at least one (1) years of full-time paid experience in health care institutional business management.
