Summary
We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversees daily manufacturing operations to ensure safety, quality, productivity, and cost‑effectiveness across machining, assembly, shipping, toolroom, and stockroom functions. This role drives operational excellence by leading teams, optimizing workflows, managing budgets, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives aligned with company goals
Responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & People Management
- Manage and develop all hourly employees across machining, assembly, quality, shipping, toolroom, and stockroom departments.
- Hire, train, schedule, coach, and evaluate employees; set clear performance expectations and foster a positive, productive work environment.
- Promote strong communication, teamwork, and problem‑solving across all shifts.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety rules, and collective bargaining agreements.
Production & Workflow Management
- Assign employees to jobs or machines based on production needs and skill sets.
- Monitor daily work progress and adjust priorities in coordination with the Scheduling Department.
- Ensure efficient use of labor, materials, and equipment to meet production targets.
- Identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to improve throughput.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing safety policies, conducting audits, and supporting safety training initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal procedures.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure products meet quality standards and customer specifications.
- Support inspection processes and collaborate with the Quality Department to resolve issues.
- Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, 5S, root cause analysis, waste reduction).
Performance Management & Reporting
- Track and analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to evaluate operational performance and drive data‑based decisions.
- Manage departmental budgets, labor costs, and overtime.
- Prepare reports and present operational updates to leadership.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Sales, ME's, Finance, Purchasing, HR, and other departments to support organizational objectives.
- Participate in long‑term strategic planning and help develop actionable plans for operational success.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Manufacturing background with knowledge of machining processes (turning, drilling, milling, heat treating, gear cutting, tooling, basic programming).
- Understanding of inspection processes, measurement methods, and related equipment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
- Experience supervising union employees.
PREFRERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience negotiating or working with collective bargaining agreements.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and data analysis tools.
Pay: $90, $110,000.00 per year
