What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Technician Accounts Payable position at RENO-SPARKS INDIAN COLONY?

Position Summary: This position will perform accounting and clerical work the Finance Department. The Finance Technician is expected to become proficient in each assigned function: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable or Payroll. The Accounting Technician will perform duties in each assigned function for the length of time required to achieve proficiency.

Duties:

  • Processes accounts payable. Collects invoices/statements or other documents submitted for payment, reviews for accuracy and proper approval. Performs data-entry, processes checks, and prints reports. Maintains vendor documentation for all processed claims.
  • Processes payroll. Collects timesheets, reviews for accuracy and proper approval. Performs data entry for payroll processing, including data entry of timesheets. Processes accurate pay checks. Reports and pays payroll taxes and related benefits. Maintains payroll files and documents.
  • Assists in the maintenance of all contracts/grant award files and official records related to the administration of each award. Reviews assigned grant/contract documents for accuracy and completeness and forwards to Contracts/Grants Officer for review and processing. Must develop and maintain the knowledge and understanding of Tribal Contract & Grants as it relates to PL 638 and revisions.
  • Processes accounts receivable. Maintains accurate records for the Colony’s customer accounts; processes billing data, invoices/statements, adjustments. This includes returned checks and travel reconciliation for staff or community travel.
  • Processes computer generated receipts for customer payments.
  • Reviews various transactions to determine accuracy and completeness of amounts, account codes, descriptions, and post such to appropriate ledgers. Prepares general ledger adjusting journal entries for immediate supervisor’s review and approval.
  • Reconciles outside data with the general ledger on a monthly and annual basis or as frequently as needed. Assist in maintaining check logs and cash balances.
  • Provides staff support such as preparation of letters, memoranda, reports, tabulations, and other related items as assigned. Sorts, photocopy, and file correspondence, checks, vouchers, and other materials, numerically, alphabetically, or by other prescribed methods as directed. Assists with the annual audit by researching and providing documents for auditors.
  • Assists the public by checking routine records and files for requested information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED, including successful completion of formal training in bookkeeping and accounting. Knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic.
  • One year experience in an accounting department or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to work in the accounting department.
  • Must possess a good knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of bookkeeping, office filing systems, and accounts maintenance including balancing and closing accounts.
  • Requires ability to compile information, conduct analysis, prepare moderately complex financial records and work within specific time frames. Must be able to operate adding machines and computerized systems.
  • Ability to understand and follow brief instructions in regard to accounting issues or procedures. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with tribal officials, employees, and the public.
  • Indian preference applies.

PLEASE NOTE: Hiring preference will be provided to qualified members of the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony followed by members of other federally recognized tribes.

The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony requires a designated candidate to successfully complete a pre employment drug screen, criminal background check, and confirmation of professional references.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.05 - $24.66 per hour
