Permitting Manager

Renewable Properties is seeking a talented Permitting Manager with three to five years of experience in land use, environmental permitting, and obtaining project entitlements. This role will be responsible for managing the development and implementation of environmental, land use, and permitting strategies for distributed renewable energy projects such as solar, battery energy storage, EV charging projects and more across the US. This position will report to the Director of Development. The Permitting Manager will support Renewable Properties permitting efforts by proactively ensuring projects are designed to minimize potential adverse impacts to the natural environment and streamline the land use and regulatory review process. This position will manage outside consultants, review technical deliverables, and coordinate full and complete submittal packages to agencies. The Permitting Manager will represent project specific interests by leading the entitlement process and advancing discretionary approvals through public hearing. Additionally, this role will interface with internal and external project partners such as Project Finance, Origination, Construction Managers, EPC contractors, legal counsel, and Asset Management. From time to time, this position will also manage development related diligence for project M&A opportunities.

Responsibilities:

Manage activities within the Company and with outside consultants to achieve all regulatory, siting, and environmental requirements and approvals needed to construct and operate a project in a manner consistent with Company objectives.

Prepare and track milestone schedules, budgets and staffing requirements to complete permitting and compliance on assigned projects and assets with an eye toward avoidance and minimization of overly complex permitting requirements.

Preparation of applications to agencies; represent Company's position in hearings and community workshops.

Negotiate and contract consultants; lead project public relations strategies; and provide documentation for siting, land use, wetland, and wildlife permits; represent the Company in policy discussions and developments regarding renewables permitting.

Lead negotiations with wildlife, land use, and other regulatory/resource agencies to achieve acceptable permit conditions consistent with project and Company goals, schedules, costs, and environmental protection.

Coordinate closely with other internal business partners, including origination, project finance, construction, and asset management to facilitate the successful design, interconnection, construction, and long-term operation of projects.

Support Site Acquisition and Interconnection teams with screening and siting of prospective solar and storage projects.

Environmental and permitting due diligence on M&A projects.

Assist Asset Management in identifying and appropriately managing operational stage conditions of approval associated with Special Use Permits and/or other natural resource / wildlife related discretionary permits associated with project development.

Assist in monitoring CAPEX expenses during development of projects, review invoices for accuracy and budget conformance, and coordinate with senior management as needed.

Qualifications:

3 -5 years' experience in land use and environmental permitting.

Strong project management, organizational skills.

Excellent interpersonal, public speaking and influencing abilities coupled with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Sophisticated understanding of the environmental, land use, and utility regulatory environment.

Effective analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve time-sensitive issues with precision.

Rigorous attention to detail, work ethic, personal responsibility, work product ownership and organizational skills.

Experience managing budgets and processes.

Experience working with municipalities, local utilities, and community stakeholders.

Ability to work in a fast-paced business environment.

Driven, resourceful and comfortable working in an entrepreneurial environment.

Travel required as needed.

Energy, planning, real estate, engineering, or business-related master's degree is a plus.
