About the Board of Directors

The RMA Board of Directors is responsible for the governance and long-term stewardship of the school. The Board provides strategic direction, oversees the organization's financial health, evaluates and supports the Executive Director, establishes policy, and ensures that RMA continues to advance its mission.

The Board consists of between five and eight directors and generally meets monthly during the school year.

RMA is currently entering an important period of strategic planning and is seeking an At-Large Director who can bring professional expertise, independent perspective, and thoughtful leadership to the Board.

Strategic Backgrounds We Are Seeking

Candidates are not expected to have experience in every area. RMA is particularly interested in individuals with expertise or strong community relationships in one or more of the following:

  • School Finance, Commercial Lending, or Debt Restructuring
  • Financial strategy, commercial banking, nonprofit or school finance, refinancing, debt management, or organizational financial sustainability.
  • Douglas County Education or Government Relationships
  • Douglas County schools, local government, charter schools, education policy, public-sector relationships, or the broader Douglas County civic community.
  • Enrollment Growth, Marketing, or Early-Childhood Strategy
  • Enrollment or customer acquisition, marketing, demographic analysis, growth strategy, early childhood education, or private education.
  • Commercial Real Estate and Facilities Strategy
  • Commercial real estate, property finance, development, facility planning, land use, valuation, or transactions, particularly within Parker or Douglas County.

Candidates with other backgrounds that could meaningfully contribute to RMA's governance and long-term strategy are also encouraged to apply.

Board Member Responsibilities

Board members are expected to:

  • Serve a three-year term.
  • Prepare for and regularly attend Board meetings.
  • Participate actively and exercise independent judgment in Board decisions.
  • Provide strategic and financial oversight.
  • Participate in strategic planning and review organizational performance.
  • Oversee, support, and evaluate the Executive Director.
  • Serve on Board committees as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and fulfill the fiduciary duties of nonprofit Board service.
  • Act as an ambassador for RMA in the community.
  • Communicate reliably and follow through on Board responsibilities.

Successful directors should bring integrity, sound judgment, strategic thinking, collaborative leadership, and a willingness to ask thoughtful and sometimes difficult questions. Directors must understand the distinction between Board governance and day-to-day school management.

Prior experience serving on a nonprofit Board is helpful but not required.

Time Commitment

Board members should generally expect to devote approximately 6–8 hours per month to meetings, preparation, committee work, annual planning activities, and occasional work between meetings.

Most regular meetings are conducted virtually, with select meetings and Board activities held in person at Renaissance Montessori Academy in Parker, Colorado.

How to Apply

Individuals interested in serving on the Renaissance Montessori Academy Board of Directors are invited to complete the Board Member application at the link below.

RMA welcomes applicants from the broader community. Being a current or former RMA parent is not required for At-Large Board service.
