About Remains

Remains Lighting is a dynamic, positive-spirited shop creating one-of-a-kind, high-quality lighting fixtures for the architecture and interior design community. We blend traditional hand metalworking with modern CNC machining inside our 20,000 sq. ft. solar-powered, LEED Gold–certified factory in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

Founded in 1996, Remains has grown from an off-the-beaten-path antique resource into a world-class manufacturer of fine custom lighting and a conservationist of historic fixtures. With showrooms in Manhattan and Los Angeles and projects around the world, we’re known for our craftsmanship, innovation, and commitment to sustainability.

About the Role

We’re looking for an Electroplating Specialist to join our Finishing Department. This is a hands-on role supporting and improving our in-house metal finishing processes.

You’ll work closely with fabricators and restoration specialists to help ensure our plated finishes are consistent, beautiful, durable, and environmentally responsible. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys applied chemistry, learning through experimentation, and working directly with materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain metal finishing systems including but not limited to: copper, nickel, and silver electroplating processes
  • Monitor and help maintain bath chemistry, replenishment, and general process health
  • Assist in troubleshooting surface defects, adhesion issues, and finish variability
  • Participate in the development and refinement specialty surface treatments
  • Help improve process consistency, efficiency, and bath longevity
  • Support closed-loop systems and pollution reduction efforts
  • Maintain clear records related to chemical processes, testing, and materials
  • Assist with chemical inventory management and ordering
  • Help train and support production staff in finishing best practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Interest in metal finishing, surface chemistry, or materials processing
  • Comfort working in a shop or production environment
  • Strong attention to detail and practical problem-solving skills
  • Interest in sustainability and environmentally responsible manufacturing methods
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • Friendly, collaborative shop culture that values curiosity and learning
  • Hands-on exposure to real-world metal finishing and patina processes
  • Opportunity to grow technical skills in applied surface chemistry
  • Work on unique, high-end projects seen around the world
  • A modern, solar-powered facility with a strong sustainability mission

If you’re excited by the idea of applying chemistry to real materials and visible results—and want to work in a place that values craftsmanship as much as innovation—we’d love to hear from you.

Please send your resume and a brief note about your interest.
