3D Scanning & Optical Metrology
- Operate structured-light, laser, and photogrammetry scanners (Smarttech3D, ATOS, Hexagon, Leica) to capture detailed 3D geometry of components and assemblies
- Perform Digital Image Correlation (DIC) data capture on hardware and material tests
- Conduct dimensional inspections using Control X and GOM Inspect, applying GD&T best practices to verify part conformance
- Build parametric and surface 3D models in Geomagic Design X and Geomagic Wrap, working from scan data to reconstruct design intent or meet customer specifications
- Produce engineering drawings and system schematics from scan-derived models
- Collaborate with the design team to validate and refine models for downstream manufacturing use
- Design tooling, fixtures, prototype hardware, and system assemblies — from sketch through CAD to fabricated part
- Perform analyses to support and substantiate design approaches
- Develop and optimize inspection and scanning workflows tailored to customer hardware and requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- 2–5 years of experience in mechanical design, metrology, quality inspection, or 3D scanning applications
- Background in aerospace, automotive, medical devices, or industrial equipment is a strong plus
- Hands-on experience with 3D scanning technology (structured light, laser scanning, or photogrammetry)
- Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred; CATIA, NX, or similar also considered)
- Solid understanding of GD&T and ability to read and create engineering drawings
- Experience with metrology or inspection software (Geomagic, PolyWorks, or similar)
- Experience with reverse engineering workflows and scan-to-CAD processes
- Familiarity with automation or robotic scanning systems
- Basic programming or scripting (Python, MATLAB, or similar) for workflow automation
- Self-starter who can manage projects independently and communicate progress clearly
- Comfortable working with customers on-site to understand requirements and demonstrate solutions
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to solve tough problems
- Willingness to travel approximately 25–50% for on-site support, demos, and customer engagement
- Work on a wide variety of hardware — no two projects look the same
- Use industry-leading scanning and metrology equipment from day one
- A culture that values engineering, technical leadership, personal judgement, and autonomy
- Full benefits, competitive salary, and a collaborative team enviroment that takes the work seriously
