Job Summary
The Injection Molding Supervisor / Technician is responsible for overseeing daily production operations, troubleshooting molding processes, and ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency standards are met. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with supervisory leadership to support continuous improvement and on-time delivery of molded products.
Key Responsibilities Production & Process Control
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment
- Monitor cycle times, material usage, and process parameters to optimize efficiency
- Perform mold changes, startups, and shutdowns
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and production schedules
Supervision & Leadership
- Supervise and support production operators and technicians
- Assign daily tasks and monitor performance
- Train employees on machine operation, safety, and quality requirements
- Enforce company policies, safety rules, and housekeeping standards
Quality Assurance
- Ensure products meet quality specifications and customer requirements
- Conduct first-article inspections and process validations
- Identify and resolve molding defects (short shots, flash, warpage, sinks, etc.)
- Work closely with Quality and Engineering teams to address nonconformances
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform basic preventive maintenance on molds and equipment
- Identify mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical issues and coordinate repairs
- Maintain accurate documentation for machine settings, downtime, and corrective actions
Safety & Compliance
- Promote a safe work environment and ensure OSHA compliance
- Participate in safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective actions
- Ensure proper handling of materials, tools, and equipment
Continuous Improvement
- Support lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Recommend process improvements to reduce scrap, downtime, and cycle time
- Assist with new product launches and process development
Qualifications Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- Technical certification or associate degree in plastics technology, manufacturing, or related field preferred
Experience
- 2-5 years of experience in injection molding manufacturing
- Prior supervisory or lead technician experience preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of injection molding processes, materials, and tooling
- Ability to read blueprints, process sheets, and quality documentation
- Experience with process monitoring, SPC, and troubleshooting
- Leadership, communication, and team-building skills
- Basic computer skills (ERP, production tracking, MS Office)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Lift up to 50 lbs
- Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, and moving machinery
Work Schedule
- Full-time
- May require shift work, overtime, weekends, or on-call support
Preferred Certifications (Optional)
- RJG Master Molder or equivalent
- OSHA safety training
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification
Pay: From $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
