What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-time Custodian position at Religious Congregation?
Candidate must be available Several Mornings a Week (preference for Wed., Thu., Fri.), One Saturday Per Month, and Occasional Evenings.
We are looking for a reliable and trustworthy custodian to maintain upkeep of our 2
house of worship buildings and grounds, keeping them clean and safe. How a building
looks inside and out says a lot about the people in it, so it’s important that the custodian is
careful and thorough when cleaning and keeping things in order. The ideal candidate
will have experience taking care of buildings, be physically fit to handle a large area,
pay close attention to details, and take pride in their work. Position requires custodian
do some work with/alongside our handyman and have some interaction with our
congregants.

Qualifications:
-High school diploma or GED preferred
-Experience as custodian/janitor or similar role preferred
-Knowledge of use and maintenance of cleaning equipment and appliances
-Minor food prep experience (warming food, making coffee, putting food items away)
-Attention to detail and conscientiousness-Good physical condition and strength
Primary Duties:
-Wash and sanitize bathrooms, restock disposables, wipe mirrors
-Ensure spaces are set up for meetings, classes, events, etc.
-General cleaning and maintenance of furniture, windowsills, ceiling beams, doors,
furniture, blinds, windows, etc.
-Sweep, mop, or vacuum floors/carpets
-Empty/clean waste baskets and take trash to outside bins
-Secure buildings, report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights
-Light food prep, food service, and kitchen and eating area cleanup
-Enforce and support synagogue policies, especially with regard to food
-Report any required repairs and attend to emergencies when necessary
-Maintain exterior walkway and building grounds cleanliness (sweep/shovel/blow leaves
as needed)
-Assist with inventory restocking and placing orders
-Follow health and safety regulations
General Skills:
-Use ladders when required in work assignments.
-Occasional heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
-Communicates appropriately with staff, congregants and visitors.
-Integrity and ability to work independently while also cooperating with other staff
-Proactive and takes both initiative and direction
