Job Overview

Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a leading non-sectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection, and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. The IRC opened in Denver in 2016 to provide reception and placement services to newly arrived refugees. Since 2016, IRC Denver has been resettling and providing assistance to approximately 200 refugees and immigrants per year. The Youth Services Supervisor is responsible for providing some direct case management and overseeing youth programs that serve humanitarian youth (ages 0-24) each year. The Youth Services Supervisor oversees program delivery; supervises a team of youth education specialists, interns and volunteers; and serves as a liaison between IRC, relevant schools, partners, agencies and families.

Major Responsibilities

• Oversee case management and out-of-school education services to youth ages 0-24, ensuring compliance with grant requirements on necessary documentation, service plans, case documentation and outcome measurement.
• Provide direct case management to a portion of the youth program caseload, including developing individual service plans, facilitating school enrollments, referring to program partners, conducting home visits, etc.
• Develop curriculum and facilitate school orientations for students and parents on topics such as the U.S. educational system, school culture, roles and responsibilities, U.S. laws, and safety.
• Develop presentations and provide individual and group trainings to school staff on topics related to refugee resettlement and specific educational needs of humanitarian immigrants.
• Coordinate services with program partners (i.e. Colorado Refugee Services Program, Soccer Without Borders, etc. and develop referral systems and collaborative partnerships with other agencies in the community as needed.
• Lead summer and out-of-school time activities – 10 weeks of cohort activities in Colorado parks with youth and their families
• Lead the Tutoring Together program, pairing volunteer mentors with refugee youth [Jen add description here, please also include if this involved volunteer management)
• Maintain and provide quality control for accurate and timely client case notes, referrals and case files as required by program guidelines.
• Contribute to youth program development and organizational growth, strategic planning, outreach and advocacy activities and events as needed.
• Supervise youth education specialists, interns and volunteers.

Job Requirements

Education

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years in work and/or lived experience required.
• An Advanced degree in education, child psychology, social work, or a relevant field preferred.
  
  

Work Experience

• At least 3 years of relevant work experience in education and/or youth development required.
• Experience working with English Language Learners is essential.
• A minimum of 2 years managing complex teams and programs, including supervising staff providing direct services and preferably using a coaching approach.
• Experience developing and managing programming in refugee resettlement and working with displaced people, survivors of trauma or torture, and similar populations strongly preferred.
  
  

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies

• A well-developed understanding of education and learning programs and strategies that contribute to self-efficacy and integration for individual newcomers and entire newcomer families.
• Knowledge of motivational interviewing and coaching techniques in a human services context.
• Familiarity with local education resources, community partners, and school systems is a plus.
• Commitment to working collaboratively with staff to promote a positive culture that reflects IRC’s core values of service, accountability, integrity, and equality.
• The ability to lead in a way that recognizes that IRC’s work is best accomplished through the true collaboration of individuals from many cultures with a great variety of skills and perspectives.
• Demonstrated ability to navigate complex problems and engage different stakeholders in solutions.
• Strong capacity to navigate differences and work as a team member in a cross-cultural environment.
• Excellent communication skills, including strong presentation and technical writing.
• Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to contribute independently and as a team member.
• Adept in identifying and leveraging resources to enhance processes and outcomes.
• Flexible, adaptable, and able to effectively manage time and competing priorities under pressure.
• Working knowledge of federal and state education and workforce grants highly desired.
• Experience with grant writing, grant management, program design, and/or monitoring and evaluation a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and cultivate partnerships to further program development goals.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; fluency in language(s) of current refugee populations preferred (Arabic, Burmese, Dari, Kiswahili, Pashto, Spanish, Tigrinya, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, etc.). Computer proficiency, including MS Office, internet applications and case management databases.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and insurance, a reliable vehicle, and the ability to travel in and around the local community frequently.
  
  

Working Environment

• A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
• Some weekend and/or evening work will be required.
  
  

Compensation and Benefits: This position is a full-time, limited-term, exempt position scheduled at 37.5 hours per week. The compensation range is $59,000-$65,000 annually.

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
