Background

RAI Education & Youth programs support displaced children to make a positive adjustment to their new communities, pursue their educational goals, and develop the social emotional assets to support holistic well-being. The IRC in Silver Spring serves approximately 2,000 individuals per year, including hundreds of youth clients aged 0-24.

Job Overview

The Youth Services Coordinator oversees the delivery of the Youth Mentorship Program, supervises a small team of direct service staff, and supports collaboration across IRC Silver Spring’s Youth and Education programs. The primary focus of this role is implementing the Youth Mentorship Program, including volunteer recruitment and onboarding, staff support, youth connections to post-secondary education and career resources, and accurate data management. The position also supports other holistic youth programming, including summer academy, field trips, and after-school programs. The coordinator reports to the Program Supervisor and works closely with the Silver Spring Youth and Education team, IRC staff, volunteer mentors, and community partners.

Major Responsibilities

  • Coordinate IRC Refugee Youth Mentoring program, serving youth aged 15-24
  • Coordinate additional IRC youth programs including summer academy, field trips, after-school programs and more
  • Ensure grant compliance, documentation and outcome measurement. Implement quality control measures including case file review, case note review and service checks
  • Draft accurate and timely data and narrative program reports
  • Supervise a small team of staff implementing IRC youth and education programs. Provide structured support through weekly check-ins and annual performance reviews
  • Lead volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and supervision in the Youth Mentorship Program
  • Identify and share best practices for youth mentoring and immigrant youth programs delivery. Develop content and deliver training to IRC staff, volunteer youth mentors, public school staff and refugee youth using both in-person and virtual formats
  • Ensure IRC staff and volunteers follow safeguarding policies for the wellbeing of youth
  • Represent IRC at external functions, primarily with volunteers, relevant school or student groups, education providers, and youth service organizations
  • Participation in regular organization and team meetings
  • Complete administrative tasks and office functions by deadlines
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum two years’ experience providing direct services to immigrant youth, preferably including mentoring, tutoring, teaching, and/or curriculum development for English Language Learners
  • Experience leading youth mentorship programs, including mentor training, mentor-mentee matching, safeguarding and follow-up
  • Experience coaching and guiding staff, volunteers and young adults
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain high quality program documentation and data
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and command of databases and platforms
  • Strong in-person and virtual workshop/training coordination skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Fluent in written and spoken English. Proficiency in a language of IRC participants is a plus

Working Environment

  • Combination of standard office working environment and field work in a variety of locations including schools, homes or field trip sites. On-site 4 days/week
  • Local travel. Must have a valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle
  • Some schedule flexibility, to accommodate for after-school, evening and weekend activities

Compensation: (Pay Range: $29.00 - $31.50) Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
