Transportation Coordinator

Hours per week: 40 hours/week (1.0 FTE), non-exempt. Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 3:30 pm, occasional evenings required
Supervised by: Transporation Supervisor
Location: Eugene, Oregon
Starting wage range: $21.98 – $24.07, depending on qualifications

Overview

Relief Nursery provides comprehensive family support services that are easily accessible to families who are raising children birth through five years of age and who are experiencing high levels of stress. We provide early intervention that centers on building successful and resilient children and strengthening parents. Our staff work as a team to provide a unique array of support, from therapeutic classrooms and outreach programs, to parenting education, substance use disorder recovery support and more.

Responsibilities

The Transportation Coordinator is an active bus driver who partners with the Transportation Supervisor to support daily transportation operations. This position safely transports children; coordinates and updates routes; maintains accurate family transportation and release information; supports driver training; and assists with vehicle maintenance, documentation, and compliance. The role also communicates with families and program staff to address routine and emergent transportation needs.

  • Safely transport children, and occasionally families, to and from Relief Nursery programs, including evening routes as assigned.
  • Support a calm, nurturing, and predictable environment during transportation using a strength‑based approach.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance, punctuality, and professional, courteous interactions with children, families, staff, and community members.
  • Follow all traffic laws, organizational safety procedures, confidentiality policies, and Oregon Child Abuse Reporting requirements.
  • Perform required pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections; monitor fuel and fluid levels; keep vehicles clean; and report maintenance needs promptly.
  • Maintain accurate route information, family addresses, and release details, ensuring all drivers have current documentation.
  • Coordinate daily routes in collaboration with the Transportation Supervisor and assist supervisors in assessing family transportation needs when requested.
  • Assist with emergent transportation needs when the Transportation Supervisor is unavailable.
  • Relay information between parents and program staff to support smooth communication.
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and safety sessions.
  • Submit mileage logs, gas logs, and other required documentation accurately and on schedule.
  • Schedule vehicle maintenance and repairs as assigned.
  • Train new drivers and bus riders.
  • Train staff on car seat safety and proper installation.
  • Provide program support as assigned, which will include assisting in classrooms and covering breaks, helping with donations, supporting kitchen staff, contributing to building upkeep, or assisting at the front desk.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 160 hours documented experience working in a classroom with children ages 0 to 5 years old (refer to Department of Early Learning & Care Aide I or Aide II experience).
  • Commitment to meet Oregon Registry Online advancement requirements. Employees must achieve Step 6 within two years of hire and continue required advancement. Progress is the employee’s responsibility and requires professional development outside scheduled work hours.
  • First Aid and Infant/Child CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.
  • Valid driver license and acceptable driving record—DMV record check required.
  • Comfortable driving a small school bus (Type A) as well as large and small vans (training provided).
  • Organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks, as well as adaptability and flexibility to respond to both planned and emergent needs.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general computer literacy.
  • Effective communication skills, emotional maturity, and stability; ability to relate tactfully, confidently, and non-judgmentally with children, families, and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications refer to job-related education or training, experience, skills, etc. that are beneficial to the position and Relief Nursery, but not a requirement for the position.

  • AA or Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Early Childhood, Education, Social Services, etc.).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Experience working with families experiencing high stress or working in a nonprofit or social services setting.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, kneel, sit on the floor or in child-sized chairs, lift and carry children up to a certain weight (up to approximately 40 pounds), bend, reach, and sometimes run to respond to emergencies, all while maintaining a high level of alertness and physical stamina to engage with young children throughout the day; this may also include good vision and hearing for observing children’s behavior and interactions.
  • Climb and descend steps with a maximum step height of 10 inches.
