As a High Voltage Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and safety of high voltage electrical systems that power essential operations.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, inspect, and troubleshoot high voltage electrical systems and components for power generation and distribution.
- Perform hands-on electrical maintenance and repair of power production electrical, mechanical, and auxiliary systems, including diesel-driven prime movers and CATERPILLAR generator sets.
- Conduct maintenance, switching operations, installation, repair, replacement, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning on transformers, switches, power circuit breakers, metal-clad switchgear, cables, protective relays, metering circuits, and control circuits at 5kV, 10kV, and 20kV voltage levels.
- Splice and terminate medium and high voltage cables.
- Install, modify, connect, and repair overhead and underground electrical distribution lines, including insulators, grounding systems, fuses, poles, air switches, and lightning arresters.
- Operate and maintain various components of medium and high voltage distribution systems, such as isolation switches, interrupters, capacitor banks, transformers, and voltage regulators.
- Operate equipment such as JLG lifts, boom trucks, and similar machinery as required for electrical work.
- Work from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications to install new systems or diagnose and repair existing systems.
- Assist in the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of high voltage switchgear, electric switches, exciters, electric meters, and related equipment.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited professional trade school, apprenticeship program, or military training in the electrical field.
- Certification and training on medium and/or high voltage systems.
- Minimum of two years’ experience as a high voltage technician; five years’ experience with power generating systems, controls, and distribution of at least 5 megawatts preferred.
- Experience with splicing and terminating medium and high voltage cables.
- Experience maintaining and repairing above-ground power lines.
- Experience working on CATERPILLAR generator sets with vendor-specific training (1 MW or greater preferred).
- Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and thorough understanding of electrical safety procedures and practices.
- Valid U.S. passport and driver’s license, each with at least 12 months’ validity from the employment start date.
- Ability to gain and maintain authorized entry onto U.S. military installations.
- Must meet United States Department of Defense medical requirements for living and working on Ascension Island.
- Ability to perform medium work, including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally.
