GRADE: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Supervisor

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Unexploded Ordnance Specialist specializing in the preparation of explosive charges will be required to have technical/military training and six years' experience in conducting explosive processing/loading operations in a research and development environment. Must be able to use laboratory scales, machinery and other instruments as needed. Must have an outstanding knowledge of explosive devices, fuses, solid propellants, pyrotechnics and munitions. May provide research and development level support in preparing explosive charges from raw materials. May be required to have outstanding knowledge of explosive chemicals. May be required to work from detailed procedures and processes, often self-developed, that ensure adequate safeguards and proper criteria are met at all times while working with the various types of explosives/munitions. Exercise independent judgment directly reporting to the UXO Supervisor,

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Will provide day-to-day assistance on all RUXOR/Munitions operations on the E-OMS contract.
  • Must be capable and knowledgeable of the classification of unexploded ordnance (UXO) and identification of U.S. and foreign guided missiles, bombs, grenades, fuses, rockets, landmines, and associated components, pyrotechnics, military explosives, and demolition materials.
  • Experience in MEC clearance operations and proper disposition of range residue required.
  • Will have 6 years combined active duty EOD, contractor UXO experience, must be able to fully perform all functions required for UXO Sweep Personnel, UXO Technician I and II.
  • Locates surface UXO using visual means and operates motor vehicles to transport these materials.
  • May be required to locate subsurface UXO using specialized equipment.
  • Required to operate forklift, loaders, dump trucks, roll-off truck, and general-purpose vehicles.
  • Must be capable of working with a variety of hand tools such as drills, wrenches, screwdrivers, and special tool required to assemble and dissemble munitions and other explosive devices.
  • The work is performed both inside and outside under variety of environmental conditions, subject to noise, fumes, and dirt from explosions and other operations.

OTHER DUTIES:
A Florida Commercial Drivers' License (CDL) and training to meet the CFR 49/DOT requirements for storage and transporting hazardous material/explosives is required. Observes company quality, safety, environmental, security and administrative policies; supports Process Improvements.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be a US Naval EOD School graduate or equivalent and have six years applicable experience.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Supports E-OMS operational objectives.


WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed both inside and outside under a variety of environmental conditions, subjected to noise, fumes, and dirt from explosions and other operations. Must be capable of assisting in on-site disposal of MEC. Other functions require housekeeping and other job-related tasks. May be required to handle hazardous materials and/or hazardous waste. May be required to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and shift work. Occasional TDY/travel may be required.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Occasionally required to stoop, bend, kneel, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and move heavy items.
