What are the responsibilities and job description for the Postdoctoral Resident, Clinical Psychology position at Relational Psych?

Relational Psych is a group practice providing individual and couples psychotherapy and psychological testing in Seattle, WA. Relational Psych values relational psychoanalytic and psychodynamic theories at the core of clinical work and provides services that prioritize long-term growth. The team dynamic is process-oriented and balances mentorship with collaboration and development. Relational Psych is seeking to hire a psychodynamically-oriented psychological resident (post doc) seeking licensure in the state of Washington.

The post doc will work from a psychodynamic lens to provide 20 hours of remote/in-person psychotherapy and psychological testing to adults and/or teens.

Within the 40 hour work week with a full caseload, your approximate hours include:

  • 20-28 clinical hours (therapy & testing)
  • 4 hours of meetings (1 hour individual supervision, 2 hours group consultation, 1 hour didactic training)
  • 5 hours mental health resource development 
  • 2 hours additional administration / documentation
  • Additional time may support studying for the EPPP and additional professional projects
  • *While you are accruing your caseload, you will be spending more time on administrative tasks.

  • You will develop your professional identity during the transition from trainee to independent practitioner. You will be encouraged to foster your decision-making skills, develop a practice that supports life-work balance, and learn how to function within a small business. 
  • Deepen your access to affect, analysis of transference, and here-and-now communication. Deepen your skills to support long-term psychotherapy clients. 
  • Increase competence to provide comprehensive psychological assessment and become efficient in report-writing and assessment processes using in-house custom tools.
  • Self-awareness and insight into who you are as a clinician, employee, and co-worker. 


The position is two years. 

  • The first year: The first year will be a salaried position at 40 hours per week and $52,000 per year with one week paid time off. After 6 months of employment, all post docs in good standing have the opportunity to increase their compensation in the form of monthly bonuses if maintaining full case loads and all responsibilities. Historically, post docs have made between $65,000 and $98,000 per year. 
  • The second year: If the post doc is not fully licensed by the start of the second year, they will continue with the same position and expectations. If the post docs is fully licensed by the start of the second year, they may move into a licensed psychologist role with additional flexibility, compensation, and independence.
