Job Description
This position would be working with an individual one-on-one in their home and in the community. Having your own car, driver's license and car insurance is required. You will have a set shift with the same individual(s) each week.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day care to people receiving services in their homes and in the community.
- Effectively promote, teach, and assist individuals with daily living skills and activities
- Assist people in planning and participating in group, social and recreational activities
- Work alongside individuals to ensure the environment is clean and orderly
- Assist and instruct individuals with medications and personal hygiene
- Complete and maintain required documentation on a web-based system during each shift
- Ensure persons' needs are met respectfully, with dignity and personal choice
- Assess client level of functioning
- Monitor progress and compliance with individual service plan
- Provide a safe environment to meet the persons needs and enhance their skills
- Effectively communicate with the Team
- Establish and maintain professional and productive working relationships
- May attend Individual Service Planning meetings (ISP)
- Must have regular and predictable attendance
- Must have reliable transportation
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required.
- Prefer one year of experience working with the developmentally disabled populations or have a human service field degree or specialized training.
- Must possess a Valid driver's license and have a good driving record
- Current automobile insurance
- Ability to drive clients in your personal vehicle
- No record of abuse or neglect or police record of a felony
- Must maintain confidentiality and protect individual rights
- Have proven skills in communication, spoken, written, and listening; observation; problem solving
- Knowledge of human growth and behavior, time management skills, and understanding of social systems
- Ability to handle a variety of situations and personalities
Job Type: Part-time
Hours are generally between 1 pm and 5 pm, depending on the needs of the individual, up to 25 hours per week.
Direct Support Professional (DSP): 1 year of experience (Preferred)
License:
- automobile and driver's license (Required)
- Female DSP is preferred
