Position: School Accountant
Reports To: Head of Finance and Operations
Status: Full Time, Exempt
Schedule: 52 Weeks (3 days/week in the summer)

Job Summary:
The School Accountant is responsible for managing the school’s accounts payable processes, monthly and year-end financial closings, and budget reporting for school staff. This position serves as a key liaison to departmental budget managers, providing training, financial updates, and support. The School Accountant works in collaboration with the Head of Finance and Operations and the Accounting Team to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and efficiency of the school’s financial operations in alignment with its mission and values.
Qualifications:
- Must be a committed Christian and demonstrate a Christ-centered lifestyle.
- Member of a local church in good standing.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
- Previous experience in school financial operations is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit or educational financial management.
- Proficiency in accounting software, financial reporting, and budget management.
- Experience with Abila accounting programs preferred.
- Knowledge of FACTS Tuition and FACTS SIS is highly desirable.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
Essential Functions:
Accounts Payable:
- Process, post, and reconcile daily bank deposits, including regular deposits, athletic deposits, and special event funds.
- Process and post credit card transactions.
- Coordinate with the Development Director to report all donations received.
- Partner with the Athletics Department regarding account designations for deposits.
- Assist department budget managers with check requests, purchasing procedures, and financial inquiries.
- Assist the Head of Finance and Operations with audit preparation as needed.
- Enter and manage invoices and deposits, ensuring timely and accurate payment processing.
- Support the monthly closing schedule through timely reconciliations and documentation.
Monthly/Year End Closing Support:
- Complete monthly and year-end closing processes in accounting software.
- Prepare accurate monthly financial statements for review with the Head of Finance and Operations.
- Investigate and troubleshoot financial statement questions, discrepancies, or adjustments as needed.
Budget Management and Support:
- Provide monthly budget updates to the Head of Finance and Operations and departmental budget managers.
- Serve as the primary liaison for budget managers, offering training, guidance, and support in understanding and managing their budgets.
- Respond to financial inquiries and provide troubleshooting assistance related to budget and expense tracking.
Audit and Compliance:
- Assist with annual financial audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and internal controls to protect school assets.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.
Physical and Safety Requirement
- This is a safety-sensitive position, and employees may be required to undergo drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working on financial reports and data entry.
- Use of manual dexterity for handling financial documents and using accounting software.
- Clear verbal communication and auditory abilities for financial discussions and meetings.
- Visual acuity to review and analyze financial reports and documentation.
