Medical Billing & Athenahealth Specialist (Remote/Hybrid)

We are seeking an experienced Medical Billing & Athenahealth Specialist who is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment while collaborating closely with our clinical and administrative teams.
Position Summary
The Medical Billing & Athenahealth Specialist will manage medical billing, insurance claims, payment posting, and revenue cycle processes using Athenahealth. This role is responsible for ensuring timely reimbursement, maintaining accurate patient accounts, and assisting with administrative tasks that support the daily operations of the practice.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of medical billing using Athenahealth
- Submit, monitor, and follow up on insurance claims
- Review and resolve claim denials and rejections
- Post insurance and patient payments accurately
- Reconcile accounts and maintain accurate patient balances
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits as needed
- Communicate with insurance companies regarding claims and authorizations
- Assist patients with billing questions and payment arrangements
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and payer guidelines
- Maintain accurate documentation within Athenahealth
- Collaborate with providers and office staff to improve billing accuracy
- Attend occasional in-office meetings or training sessions when needed
Qualifications
Required:
- Hands-on experience using Athenahealth (required)
- Knowledge of insurance billing, claim submission, denials, and appeals
- Experience with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding
- Strong understanding of EOBs and payment posting
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- High attention to detail and accuracy
Preferred:
- Familiarity with Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance plans
- Revenue cycle management experience
- Prior experience working remotely

Pay: $10.50 - $25.00 per hour
