Location: Various job sites throughout Wyoming & Shop Location (Cheyenne, WY)
Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and reliable Heavy Equipment Mechanic with experience in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of equipment commonly used in heavy civil construction. This role involves both fieldwork at construction job sites across Wyoming and shop-based work, ensuring the safe, efficient operation of essential equipment such as cranes, manlifts, and other heavy machinery. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with strong troubleshooting abilities and a solid understanding of mechanical systems in construction equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Field Service & Repairs: Travel to various construction job sites across Wyoming to perform repairs and maintenance on heavy equipment, including cranes, manlifts, and other machinery commonly used in heavy civil construction.
- Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to identify issues with machinery systems (electrical, hydraulic, mechanical) and conduct repairs or replacements as needed.
- Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on a variety of construction equipment to minimize downtime and ensure safety compliance.
- Record Keeping & Documentation: Maintain accurate service records for each repair or maintenance job, including parts used, labor hours, and job site notes.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers and site supervisors to ensure timely equipment readiness for ongoing construction projects. This position will report to Mechanic Foreman and Shop Manager
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols while working on equipment, whether on job sites or in the shop. Follow OSHA standards and company safety procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
- Shop Work: Assist with general equipment maintenance and repairs in the shop when not on job sites, helping to ensure all equipment is in top working condition.
- Customer Service: Provide on-site technical assistance, working directly with equipment operators and superintendents to ensure proper operation and timely repairs.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, with extensive knowledge of repairing and diagnosing equipment used in heavy civil construction
- Certifications: ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications or similar qualifications in heavy equipment repair preferred. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems; ability to read schematics, manuals, and diagrams; proficient in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Problem-Solving: Exceptional troubleshooting skills and ability to quickly assess and resolve mechanical issues to minimize downtime.
- Travel: Must be willing and able to travel within Wyoming, sometimes requiring overnight stays at various job sites
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments. Must be capable of lifting heavy parts and working in tight spaces.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with job site teams, clients, and other stakeholders.
