About The Position

Overview Of Responsibilities
- Performs periodic tours of all hospital buildings and grounds. Visually checks for security, safety, and fire hazards. Makes written reports each shift on findings and irregularities.
- Notifies Chief of Police, Assistant Chief of Police, Captain, or Sergeant in the event of an emergency or criminal act.
- Enforces hospital police department regulations and policies designed to prevent theft and unauthorized access.
- Conducts safety checks and tests as required by state and federal laws for a hospital.
- Assists in all emergencies inside and outside of Reid Health and Reid’s satellite offices.
- Files reports concerning irregular activities. Promptly reports incidents involving criminal activities to law enforcement authorities.
- Patrols parking areas periodically, leaving warning notices on automobiles in violation of parking regulations. Checks fire and emergency lanes to ensure they are always clear.
- Supports Reid Health Police Department objectives.
- Assists with patient restraint when necessary.
- Directs visitors and answers questions relative to location of services.
- Checks all odor reports and locates origin.
- Responds to fire emergency calls and assists police, fire, and emergency management teams.
- Provides escort services, car door unlocks, vehicle jump starts, and automobile tire inflation to assist staff and guests.
- Supports hospital policies, procedures, and mission statements.
- Participates in employee health and infection control requirements.
- Attends staff meetings and in-services.
- Responds to Security Codes I & II.
- Successfully completes all required department and hospital training.
- Successfully completes all agency firearms training and maintains a 90% qualification score.
Education & Experience
- Minimum of two years’ experience in law enforcement, military, or security.
- Must be a minimum of 21 years old to complete firearms training.
- Excellent written, verbal, computer, and telephone communication skills.
- Positive attitude.
- Individual performance and competency-based skills are maintained through ongoing assessment of competence and educational activities. Written evaluations are completed on an annual basis.
- Must have the required skills, experience, and/or ability to learn procedures necessary to complete assignments related to this position description and the physical requirements of the assignment. Physical requirements include pushing wheelchairs, assisting with lifting patients, restraining patients or guests, climbing stairs, and running short distances.
- Must learn and maintain firearms proficiency and qualification through the Reid Health Police Department.
- Minimum education: High school graduate.
- Preferred education: High school graduate.
- Minimum experience: Previous law enforcement or healthcare security officer experience.
- Must be a licensed driver and maintain driving privileges through their state of residence.
- Must have a good driving record.
- Must be preapproved for Reid Health automobile insurance.
