This job contributes to REI’s success by designing, implementing, and managing total rewards programs (including compensation, benefits, recognition, retirement, and well-being) that are aligned with the Co-op’s values and strategic business objectives. Through innovative thought leadership and strategic problem-solving, this role supports REI’s ability to continue to attract, engage, and retain top talent. Responsibilities and Qualifications

Leading the Way

  • Partners with the DVP of Total Rewards & Operations to support executive compensation strategy. Prepares materials for the Compensation Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Manages research and benchmarking to inform executive pay recommendations, ensuring alignment with governance standards, shareholder expectations, and regulatory compliance.
  • Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices. Ensures the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
  • Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote REI key messages.
  • Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results.
  • Ensures employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
  • Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing selections.
  • Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
  • Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to employees in order to achieve department, company and customer results.
  • Establishes and maintains visibility within the department.
  • Monitors operational statistics, reports trends, variances and issues, and takes appropriate action.

Your Planning & Navigating Requirements

  • Develop and implement total rewards strategies that align with the organization's goals and aims.
  • Manage the design, implementation, and management of compensation programs, including executive compensation, base salary, short-term and long-term incentives, and recognition.
  • Manage the design, implementation, and management of benefit programs. These include health and wellbeing, financial wellness and retirement, time-off and leaves, and accommodations.
  • Ensure that total rewards programs comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of total rewards programs and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts with external partners.
  • Partner closely with HR business partners and other stakeholders. Ensure that total rewards programs are part of broader HR and business strategies.
  • Develop and deliver communications and training on total rewards programs to employees, managers, and other stakeholders.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Deep knowledge of compensation and benefits best practices, trends, and regulations.
  • Experience managing executive compensation and pay equity.
  • Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and prioritize contending demands.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Exceptional critical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to drive recommendations.
  • Builds capacity of individuals and teams through effective employee development, involvement, communication, and supervision efforts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 12 years of experience in Compensation, Benefits, and Total Rewards
  • At least 7 years of experience in a leadership and people management role.

Pay Range

$140,300.00 - $238,600.00 per year
