Position Overview
The Estimator is responsible for leading and supporting the full bidding process—from preconstruction through bid submission—while developing strategic, competitive, and accurate estimates. This individual will play a key role in project planning, subcontractor engagement, and overall bid success.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documents to develop accurate estimates
- Develop and execute bid strategies, identifying risks, opportunities, and competitive advantages
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs across CSI Divisions 1–46
- Prepare conceptual and hard bid estimates, including general conditions and bid summaries
- Solicit and manage subcontractor/vendor pricing and coverage
- Build scopes of work and evaluate subcontractor proposals for completeness and accuracy
- Lead and participate in pre-bid meetings with internal teams and subcontractors
- Support project logistics planning, including phasing and scheduling considerations
- Utilize historical cost data and market trends to validate pricing
- Review estimates for constructability, completeness, and risk mitigation
- Develop and maintain strong subcontractor relationships
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, project management, and leadership teams
Qualifications
- 5 years of estimating experience within a Commercial General Contractor environment
- Proven experience estimating projects $5M
- Experience in commercial construction and/or multi-family projects (depending on role)
- Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and cost structures
- Ability to lead and manage full-cycle estimates independently
- Experience developing subcontractor coverage and bid strategy in competitive markets
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Timberline/Sage, OST) and Microsoft Office
- Experience with self-perform scopes (concrete, carpentry, etc.) is a plus
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
- Must have a stable work history with a General Contractor
