Publications Manager

The Role
RAPS is seeking a Publications Manager to manage the creation, production, and distribution of RAPS books and related content, which are available electronically and in print. Working with leadership and regulatory stakeholders, they seek to meet the information and learning needs of regulatory professionals via written texts. They identify growth opportunities; determine business requirements; develop data-driven models to guide expectations; and work with RAPS’ technology platforms (digital library, content management system, association management system, etc.) to deliver content when and where regulatory professionals need it. They work cross-functionally across the entire organization including the editorial and news teams; marketing, sales, and business development; education and professional development; and finance and operations to drive concepts from strategy to execution.
As part of a growing content and publishing team as RAPS shifts to a model focused on customer engagement and content delivery, this position is uniquely positioned to grow our portfolio of monetized content while influencing how readers and authors perceive RAPS publications.
What you will do with us:
- Support the development and maintenance of a comprehensive strategic publication plan, coordinating cross-functionally with all internal content teams.
- Manage the tactical and timely execution of book projects and related content according to a published production calendar.
- Develop and maintain detailed production schedules for all book and content projects, liaising with SME editors and authors and RAPS team members in editorial, marketing, and technology to deliver projects on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Manage the pricing, revenue/expense budgeting, and reforecasting processes for publications, as well as fulfill requests for monthly variance information and annual audit requests.
- Coordinate with finance and technology to create and deliver monthly sales reports and analysis.
- Coordinate internal and external resources (editorial and design staff, freelance editors, indexers, printers, warehousers, digital asset managers, etc.) for the successful execution of projects.
- Develop and oversee strategy for selling products through external platforms such as higher-education distributors, Amazon.com, and other distribution channels.
- Work with the technology team to set up and maintain book and content products on RAPS association management system (AMS), content management system (CMS), digital asset manager (DAM), and more.
- Work with the editorial team and the Editorial Advisory Committee to vet book proposals and select yearly projects.
- Establish and manage new and existing co-publishing agreements with third-party publishers, including product set-up, sales monitoring/tracking, marketing, and royalty payments.
- Work with the signature and conference series teams to conceptualize and develop plans for the RAPS Store onsite; manage store inventory; oversee and direct store staff during the conference; work with marketing to ensure appropriate promotion and collateral.
- Ensure physical book inventory is managed, forecasted, reported, and reconciled monthly.
- Serve as a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT).
What you will bring to succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or commensurate experience
- Minimum of 5 years of project management experience in publishing (or related) field
