What are the responsibilities and job description for the DSP (Direct Support Professional) position at Rego Park Counseling?
Overview:
We are seeking compassionate individuals to join our team as Direct Support Professionals. As a DSP you will be working directly with adults with mental health issues with a focus on improving their wellbeing and helping them achieve their goals. The ideal candidate has a strong background in human services, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of local support systems. This is a part time job and hours and location vary based on the caseload that will be available for you.
Duties:
The duties work on a case-by-case basis according to needs of individual you will be working with and can include things like:
- Teaching them social skills, life skills, and spending quality time with them in their homes and the community.
- Accompanying them to the park, grocery, or other outlets.
- Helping them learn basic skills such as cooking, shopping, and financial planning.
- Collaborating on achieving their career goals by helping them apply for a job, prepare for an interview, or help them get a GED.
- Connect clients to community-based programs and government services (e.g., housing assistance, SNAP, Medicaid, Social Security, workforce programs)
- Implement individualized service plans and document progress accurately
Requirements:
-Have a High School Diploma or GED
-Minimum of 1 years experience as a DSP, case manager, or in a related human services role
