Job Title: Controller (Responsible for both companies and all 4 locations)
Location: Addison, IL or Milwaukee, WI
We are a growing, multi-entity/multi-location company specializing in work truck upfitting, with locations in Addison/Alsip, Illinois (Regional Truck Equipment) along with sister company locations in Butler/Appleton, Wisconsin (Casper's Truck Equipment).
This is an opportunity to step into a high-impact leadership role and build scalable accounting and HR processes in a hands-on, operationally focused environment.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead all accounting, financial, and HR operations across two commonly owned companies and four locations. This role will oversee financial reporting, job costing, inventory accounting, payroll, benefits administration, and internal controls, while managing a small team.
The Controller will serve as the primary partner to the CFO and play a key role in providing visibility into job profitability, strengthening processes, and supporting continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership
- Own and manage the monthly close process
- Prepare accurate, timely financial statements (entity level and consolidated)
- Deliver actionable financial insights to CFO and ownership
Job Costing & Profitability
- Ensure accuracy of job costing across all builds
- Analyze labor, material, and margin performance by job and location
- Partner with operations on pricing, costing, and margin improvement
Inventory & WIP Accounting
- Oversee inventory accounting, cycle counts, and valuation
- Maintain accurate WIP tracking and cost allocation
- Manage reserves for slow-moving or obsolete inventory
HR, Payroll & Benefits Oversight
- Oversee payroll processing (multi-state: WI & IL) ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Manage employee benefits administration (health, retirement, etc.)
- Support HR processes including onboarding, employee records, and policy administration
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state employment regulations
- Partner with external providers (PEO, brokers, payroll services as applicable)
Team Leadership
- Lead and develop a small team (accounting staff and HR/payroll support)
- Standardize and centralize processes across locations
- Establish clear roles, accountability, and workflow efficiency
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls and segregation of duties
- Review reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reports
- Ensure compliance with multi-state requirements (WI and IL)
Systems & Process Improvement
- Improve accounting, payroll, and HR workflows and systems
- Drive process efficiencies and automation where possible
Qualifications
Required:
- 5 years of accounting experience, including leadership responsibility
- Experience in a manufacturing, construction, or job costing environment
- Strong knowledge of inventory accounting and cost accounting
- Experience overseeing payroll and/or HR functions
- Proven ability to manage and develop a small team
- Hands-on, detail-oriented, and process-driven
Preferred:
- Experience in multi-entity or multi-location organizations
- Familiarity with multi-state payroll and employment regulations
- ERP system experience
