School Counselor
John Winthrop Middle School
Summary: A School Counselor position is available at John Winthrop Middle School. This individual is responsible for assisting all students to understand their individual strengths, define educational goals and plan an appropriate school program. Experience with elementary school students is preferred. Duties and Responsibilities:
? Assist students to gain skills necessary to cope with the variety of issues in their growth and development.
? Support students in making transitions between schools and post-secondary plans.
? Adhere to preferred practices prescribed by state and national school counselor associations.
? Collaborating with teachers, administrators, and parents to help students succeed.
Requirements:
? Connecticut Certification as a Counselor (068).
? Bachelor's Degree or higher.
? Solid knowledge of subject matter including subject-specific curriculum and assessments.
? Thorough understanding of the American educational system, including social, cultural, and political influences on educational practices.
