Regional School Unit 57Title: Van DriverQualifications: High School diploma or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experienceHold a valid State of Maine Operators License for a minimum of two years (required)To communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, parents, community, and school personnelReports to: Director of TransportationJob Goal: 1. Safe operation, maintenance and routing of the assigned school van on a day-to-day basis.Performance Responsibilities: Safely operate school van on a daily basisCheck van before each operation for mechanical defects and report any defects utilizing daily inspection formClean assigned van inside daily and wash inside and outside monthly or sooner if appropriateDischarge students only at authorized stopsEnforce rules governing student conduct on vans and utilize districts formal discipline procedure when appropriateReport any damage to the vehicle to Transportation DirectorFile accident report as necessaryUtilize safe driving practices in accordance with State lawRefer all requests from parents concerning transportation changes to the Director of TransportationAssist in inter-school delivery of mail, and suppliesEnsure that the van is empty and secured whenever the van is unattended. Periodically check the van for securityPerforms other tasks and assumes other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to timePhysical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
